Director Baz Luhrmann has found his Elvis. He has set Austin Butler to play the starmaking role of Elvis Presley in the untitled drama that covers the seminal legend’s growth from dirt poor singer to global icon, seen through the prism of his complex relationship over two decades with manager Colonel Tom Parker. Latter role will be played by Tom Hanks and Warner Bros will distribute worldwide.

The film will shoot early next year in Queensland, Australia, with Warner Bros Pictures distributing worldwide. The film will trace Presley’s elevation to a level of stardom and celebrity matched only by The Beatles, set against an evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.

Lana Del Rey is rumoured to be playing Priscilla Presley (idk how that would work age-wise but she definitely has the look).

The Buddy Holly biopic "The Buddy Holly Story" is a great film and must see, with a superb performance from CBB winner Gary Busey as Buddy Holly.

As an Elvis fan I'll probably give it a watch, but I won't get my hopes up with Luhrmann.

Yeah I’d have loved her to be cast. Sadly though she’s not in this, she’s a bit old to be playing very young Priscilla.

Main cast:

Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker
Austin Butler as Elvis Presley
Chaydon Jay as pre-teen Elvis
Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley
Yola Quartey as Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Luke Bracey as Jerry Schilling
Kelvin Harrison Jr. as B.B. King
Dacre Montgomery as Steve Binder
Helen Thomson as Gladys Presley, Elvis's mother
Richard Roxburgh as Vernon Presley, Elvis's father
David Wenham as Hank Snow
Alton Mason as Little Richard

More on the Wikipedia page for this but that’s the main crop it seems.

Luhrmann has a habit of going a bit too OTT and camp with his movies, I hope this one is more refined but still packing that trademark, lavish Luhrmann visual punch.

It’s about time we had a fantastic Elvis biopic - can’t believe there hasn’t been one already tbh.

Better than Lupe Velez' toilet related death.

She was an actress from the Golden Age of Hollywood. But to avoid the shame of bearing an illegitimate child, she overdosed on sleeping pills and brandy. But unfortunately, the big Mexican Last Supper she consumed kicked in right about then, and her maid found her corpse with its head in the toilet...

Does anyone listen to him anymore? Sure a biopic about ABBA or Fleetwood Mac would sell better. Seems to be all white males getting the films at the moment… Elton…. Queen…
