What a Fool to set this Account up
what the hell did He Expect?
He was due to Name Himself
but got so scared he deleted the account.

[Justin Fashanu's niece has told Sky News she is "upset" and "disheartened" after a social media
user who claimed he was about to come out as a gay footballer appeared to have deleted his account.
The anonymous Twitter account, known as The Gay Footballer, had gained more than
40,000 followers but it was disabled on Tuesday evening - the day before he had suggested
he would reveal his identity.
Sky News has spoken to the purported footballer - who said he was an English player
with a Championship club - but could not verify if his claims were true.]

so why not state and "Oliver has said that gays are not discriminated against" ?

and i am guessing he was a bit more specific and geographically specific?

Bc parm and someone else voiced similar sentiments I think

Oliver was specific that western europe is past discrimination so

I never quite said that.

Systemic discrimination is virtually dead, but that doesn't mean individuals can't be bigoted.

For example, this footballer deleted his twitter because he got cold feet. He wasn't forced to by the FA.

You did Oliver, you said the laws dont allow discrimination and so there's no problem anymore.
Parm said something like that too.
I think it was in the context of pride marches?

In this case there's a culture of discrimination in the whole of male football, and probably other team sports to a lesser degree

because the use of "some" implied many and not one member and that member has come back and said its incorrect information

TSII used the term as an exaggeration and it does not help the debate

Just as you once said "and they say racism is dead"

I never said there are absolutely no problems... I've always posited saying such things by adding there will always be dickheads, but there's nothing left for Pride to achieve.

Everything we need is enshrined in law, and seeing degeneracy which is featured in some Pride parades isn't going to change any minds.

I also said I think more public figures should come out to help to normalise gayness, which is obviously acknowledging it's not all peaches and rainbows.

Is there a reason why people didn't automatically assume this was some fantasist on the internet looking for attention? Anyone can create an anonymous Twitter and pretend to be a footballer. Did he offer some sort of validation to be taken so seriously?

Here's one of them:
I'd never say that it's all rosy now, but in the UK we have all the rights we need. We're even allowed to drive, fancy that!!11

The only real issues gays still face are social ones, and they need to be addressed in different ways

That pretty much covers what I've been saying in this thread:)

I didn't really follow this properly but from the bits I saw it looked fake to me anyway - they had tweets contacting people for publicity/interviews etc and were milking the "countdown to coming out day" stuff

Its because there has been alot of media stories about players ready to come out so people just put 2 and 2 together and got 5
