Please god don’t let Pierce Brosnon sing, we don’t deserve that again

i don't think he will sing, it states that he plays the dad of rachel mcadams's character

so probably being a supportive dad throughout the movie

and Will's interest for eurovision, is because he knew about this contest via his swedish girlfriend, and Will was in tel aviv too for this years contest :D

btw downton abbey's Dan Stevens will play alexander lemkov, russia's artist in the movie

no in all honesty, don't get me wrong, i stan will ferrell's acting so much, he's just perfect for family entertainment movie genre :clap1:

also i am curious if we get any past esc artist cameo, or we see any real life esc archive footage

Omg why does this actually look good

I've got a feeling that we will see people making cameos. Also, ESC 2019 got removed from Netflix here in the U.S. at the beginning of the month.

It was ok, not hilarious though. Also its a blatant steal of A Song For Ireland from Fr. Ted

There was a lot of inaccuracies but it wasnt meant to be a documentary and I had fun watching it with my group chat.

Husavik could win best original song x

haven't watched it yet, however i did read some nice interviews with cast

Will Ferrell himself knows eurovision since 1999, Charlotte Perrelli (then Nilsson) with take me to your heaven

Rachel McAdams heard about eurovision since Conchita's win in 2014

Pierce Brosnan also loves the contest, said it is a great way to bring all european and australia's communities together through the form of music

you can read about this further, on eurovision.tv, they made an entire article about this with cast interviews, movie info etc

Loved the film, a cute love story with some great camp Eurovisioness. I especially liked the Song-Along scene and Husavik is such a great song, clearly tried to rip off Never Enough but I actually prefer it

I thought it was quite fun and charming. I laughed out loud a couple of times.

The plot is actually very similar to Yesterday, which I watched recently.

Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams are friends from childhood at the start and

fall for each other by the end. There's a thing at the end about love and happiness being more important than success in winning Eurovision, like in Yesterday where the main guy gives up his successful career.

I suppose what happens is pretty standard for rom-coms though.

Yeah I suppose. A cross between Yesterday and that episode of Father Ted then :p

I enjoyed it BUT...

1) A whole part of the plot is that the Icelandic guy is worried that they'll win meaning it'll be hosted in Iceland...

2) The Lion guy mentions that it doesn't matter that the UK entry is good because everyone hates the UK so we never win...

3) It's being hosted in Edinburgh, which means that even by ESTABLISHED IN-MOVIE RULES, the UK must have won the previous year.

... ... ... I mean, I wouldn't mind if they changed the facts to fit the film - i.e. it doesn't have to be hosted in the winning country, OR it's feasible that the UK won...

But they mention both the hosting rules AND the situation with the UK never winning, within the film itself :suspect:. Broken internal logic.

Other than that though I thought it was great, the accents were awful but in a good way. At one point, Brosnan flipped wildly from something that sounded a bit Scottish to something that was just flat-out Welsh within the space of 20 seconds :joker:

Unless in the film's universe, Scotland gets its own entry and we won the previous year, which obviously should happen and we would definitely win :flutter:.

Nicky91

Scotland, Wales being independent into real Eurovision, would be a dream yes :flutter:

already am loving Welsh music (even though harshly underrated) at junior eurovision

They kept making a joke about how the main two were 'probably' not siblings. I was a bit worried while watching that it would be a plot twist at the end.

Niamh.
06-07-2020, 01:01 PM
TS I was thinking that too, also the fact that the hosts were clearly not from the UK was odd as well, if it's being hosted in the UK then it would surely have UK hosts, unless the hosts were from whichever country that won and if so, the rule for hosting does not apply therefore the Icelanders worries were pointless

James

Graham Norton talking over the songs also.

Niamh.

Regarding the really bad accents, that was something I didn't mind either it made the film funnier

The twist was in fact that Sigrit's mum was the only one in town who HADN'T slept with Erick :hehe:.

Having just seen this it's not amazingly funny and it's pretty stupid at times but I still loved it. Mainly for three reasons:

- Jaja Ding Dong

- The songalong

- Husavik :flutter:

Definitely didn't just watch this a second time

They've been playing Husavik on the radio recently which is great but the radio edition cuts some of the Will Ferrell bits from the song for some reason, takes away some of the emotion imo

Rewatching this while working - I just realised a plot hole!

...they all laugh about them and how awful they are and how they could never win at first... and yet the song right at the beginning ("Volcano Man") would ****ing easily win Eurovision :joker:.

I haven’t watched but perhaps it’s a situation where Australia won, and as they aren’t allowed to host in their own country they chose Scotland to hold it? That’s the only explanation I can think of
