Actors and writers have criticised the Daily Telegraph columnist Charles Moore for claiming that Olivia Colman has “a distinctly leftwing face” in remarks which suggested she was unsuitable to portray the Queen in the upcoming series of The Crown.

The suggestion provoked bemusement on Twitter, with the comedian David Baddiel describing it as “idiot columnist rhetoric” and Little Britain actor Matt Lucas saying it did not make the remotest sense. Tracy Ann Oberman tweeting: “Jaw drop. To the floor.”

it is nonsense, and i guess Olivia is well suited to the role, as well as a fab addition for that series, given she is a recent oscar winner and i think she can play the queen really well (i have that sort of gut feeling)

and looking at political views with castings is not relevant, since a good actor/actress can play anyone even with opposed views as yourself

I don't know what a left/right wing face is but the remarks on her facial expressions of humour and irony about the role are ridiculous. She's an actress, she disappears well into her roles I find.
