If people paid money for hookers, they must have had money. If they had money, they must have worked. So if they had jobs, how could prostitution be the oldest job in the world?

because prostitution doesn't need to involve money, never has.

I never took that phrase to be 100% accurate, more like it's a very old "profession" Kind of like "it's the best thing since sliced bread" granted bread is a pretty good thing but is it actually the best thing?

Maybe they used other goods as money before money. Tools, clothing, food, cattle, transportation animals etc. other neat things. With a shiny thingy (jewels), you get the "Girlfriend experience".

didn't the first act of prostitution involve an apple?

There are instances of Chimps/Bonobos exchanging food for sex, and they are our nearest cousins, so it's probably been happening since before we were actually humans.

Well, maybe. On porn films/scenes it's usually used as an alternative "payment" for a work or service because the girl (18+) or woman "does not have" any money.

Exactly what i am thinking they might begin using the thing now we called prostitution as in exchange of commodities.

They would probably trade food/materials/animals/favours.

Thought that was fairly obvious.
