View Full Version : Big Bang Theory cast to produce Miranda remake for US TV
Just in case you were wondering what the worst possible thread title you could read on this forum is
“The Big Bang Theory” stars Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are re-teaming for a multi-cam comedy at Fox, Variety has learned.
In a highly competitive situation, Fox has given a series commitment to “Carla,” a new series that Bialik and Parsons will executive produce with Bialik also attached to star. The series is based on the BBC original “Miranda” created by Miranda Hart. Bialik will star as the titular Carla, a 39-year-old woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that you cannot have everything you want and still be happy. That is why she spent the money her parents set aside for her wedding to open a Cat Café in Louisville, KY.
The show is currently expected to launch in fall 2020.

Miranda is the least funny thing I have ever seen ever.
There’s no way it could be made any worse, so I don’t see why not.

The US Office is a classicAgreed, I'm a bigger fan of The Office US than the original version tbqfh. That said, the first season is the weakest, and that's the season that was a near scene for scene remake... It was a better show once it went it's own way.
Though the only evidence anyone needs that remakes are generally a bad idea, is The Inbetweeners US. just... Horrible...

I don't really see the point in remaking it? Like, whether or not you like it, it's a very a specific thing - Miranda's "real life", and she talks to the camera. The appeal is Miranda herself, not the character she's playing. So why remake it? Why not make a similar show, but without connecting it to Miranda?
I've not seen Bialik in anything else or in interviews, but she seems too wooden for a Miranda role, Miranda is very expressive... but then Sheldon's wife is meant to be a block of wood, so :joker:

Erm... it's not connected to Miranda. It's simply based on it, the premise.

No that's what I mean, it's both incredibly specific and a generic premise - even though they contradict each other
What I mean is, they could make a similar show and people probably wouldn't even connect it to Miranda. So why say it's an American version?

Because I imagine it's going to have enough similarities that Miranda Hart will be credited (and no doubt paid) the same as Ricky Gervais was with the Office, but it will forge its own path.

I try ALL the new series and all the supposedly hilarious ones .. over 90% of British comedy series are absolute garbage . Imho
There’s only really Plebs of late that’s been anything close to being funny

You said the "world's" best comedy. So I assume you watch more than English and North American comedy?

I tend to stick to English language humour ... I find it easier to understand ..
You also have to read things in context . I replied to a guy suggesting that the yanks should leave comedy to us Brits ..

Fitting considering ours is one of the worst comedies of the 21st century.
