Also advocating castrate & release shows a fundamental misunderstanding of child molestation cases, as the idea that a convicted child molester definitely won't harm another child "because they're castrated" is utterly ludicrous.

Child molestation is one of the worst crimes that exists, so I think the taxpayer can justify it. There's no guarantee that the mutilation of a pedophile will prevent them from acting in the same way.

Actually, it would probably cost more to go through the appeal courts and such to mutilate someone then it would be to keep them alive for 60 years or so. I remember reading that, in US states where execution is still a thing, it costs more to kill someone then it does to keep them alive because of the due process involved. I can't imagine that chopping people into pieces would be any less costly.

I find the idea that paedophilia isn't psychologically linked to any other abusive tendencies to be an incredibly simplistic one, so "snip off their genitals and send them out in the world because then they'll pose no threat to anyone" as an argument is dumbfounding to me

There was talk once of voluntary chemical castration for those who had not yet offended but condidered themselves a threat, not sure if it was here or America.
