View Full Version : Bay parking - do you..
Reverse in or drive straight in?
I don't think in all my years of driving I have ever reversed into a bay space - I always drive straight in on the basis that it's easier to reverse out of a space than into one. Always fear if I reversed in that I'd misjudged it horribly and make a mess of it
Looking at other cars today though I think I might be in a minority and most reverse in  so which do you do

Generally straight in, unless there is ample room for me to reverse so I don't make a complete tit of myself

I haven’t passed yet, but when I’m practicing or on a lesson I always reverse in purely on the basis that in my area examiners only ever ask you to reverse into the space so it gets practice in.
My instructor told me it’s a regional thing though, examiners in some areas only ask you to drive straight in and reverse out.

Reverse in. It’s much easier. I only drive straight in if I have to do shopping for example and need access to the boot.

Reverse is so much easier, both to park and to get back out again, not to mention safer, I don't understand people who don't do this

Same. Especially as most cars have parking sensors nowadays, your less likely to reverse into something.

It's much more dangerous reversing back into the car park/road than it is when you're already on the main road/car park and reversing into an empty space. Infact most Industrial estates/business Parks over here (and probably in the UK) have signs up saying Reverse Park Only, mine has
I've never seen a sign saying reverse park only
Just got to be a bit careful and back out slowly and no problems at all :hee: I would always rather reverse out into a wide road or car park than reverse into a narrow space which might take several attempts
Reversing in makes you more likely to knock/scrape other cars as well imo

Never seen a reverse only sign either

I find it way easier to be accurate when reversing in, the car moves better or something

When I used to drive, I would make sure I went straight into the bay..and that I could drive straight out again forwards.
Easy enough at supermarket car parks:blush:

Ive seen signs saying reverse park only, normally at large office blocks where parking is quite tight.
I always reverse in, only time I drive straight in is if its two clear spaces so I drive through to the furthest so I can drive straight out.

I'd rather back out into a big space than back into a little one. I can reverse park though, I hasten to add.

Drive straight in. If I can drive through to another bay, to be able to drive forward out, all the better.
I drive straight into the driveway aswell, so I have to reverse out. I often hold up the traffic, but I'm careful.

I drive straight into bays but I always reverse onto my drive.
