Tories more popular among working class than rich, new general election poll shows

https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/1/590x/Jacob-Rees-Mogg-849674.jpg

The Conservative Party now has more support among working-class voters
than the upper classes, according to a new poll which predicts that Boris
Johnson will win a 110-seat majority at the general election.

The exclusive Savanta ComRes survey for The Daily Telegraph found that 43
per cent of voters from the DE social group are prepared to vote for the
Tories on December 12, up from 35 per cent in 2017. The poll found 40 per
cent of AB voters plan to back Mr Johnson compared to 46 per cent who were
prepared to vote for Theresa May two years ago.

As champions of free-market capitalism, the Conservatives have always
traditionally been seen as the party of the rich. However, since the UK voted
to leave the European Union in 2016, the largely Remain voting so-called
metropolitan liberal elite have pivoted to the Liberal Democrats. Conversely,
working-class Leave voters are increasingly backing the Prime Minister’s
promise to ‘get Brexit do

Asked if Jeremy Corbyn’s failure to tackle anti-Semitism within his own
party shows he is unfit to be Prime Minister, 55 per cent agreed and 21 per
cent disagreed.

The British public appears to be more confident in Mr Johnson keeping control
of Britain’s borders than Mr Corbyn, with 42 per cent suggesting the
Conservatives would be the most likely to control immigration compared to
only 12 per cent who thought Labour would.

:idc:

it was already known Tories are more popular among upper class, rich

but certainly no surprise how this is happening in times of a ''general election'' :laugh3: to somehow say otherwise making stuff up for tories to win votes at this election, LMAO

If you actually read the article it is the result of a survey

People like easy solutions, so when the government that forces austerity on you and your lives tells you it's because of europe and immigrants, which is backed up by the media you consume, then of course you'll trust them.

Tory folks like Raab and Patel wrote a book in which they called the british workers lazy, but yeah, have at it. Enjoy your hard brexit and the more austerity that will follow it, and then enjoy the tories blaming you for it.

Stockholm syndrome.

so its the same would you say as pretending that nationalisation will "bring back the good ol days" or that all migrants are poor and deserving and fleeing from war torn places like Romania and Vietnam?

What? That's pretty incoherent, and in no way relates to the point I made. I do think forcing companies like Amazon to pay tax, and not allowing the country to be used as a back channel to tax havens, will take immense pressure off the working classes who've born the brunt of paying for the 2008 banking collapse.

I mean, I'm talking about groups being used against the British people to divide and conquer. It's been a complete success for the tories as your post highlights.

Priti Patel is using Romanies and immigration again today as a way to stoke up fears amongst voters. Anyone comparing tory demonisation and white displacement theories to labour wanting to renationalise has no idea what they're talking about.

The main reason for it - as the article says - is Brexit, and Labour seemingly pivoting towards another Remain vs Leave referendum.

Surveys have shown that DE social groups are more Leave supporting and the AB social groups are more Remain supporting.

The traditional focus of the tories on small business and prudent management of the economy has all but vanished too, thats what previous generations voted for, so I'm not surprised their support base is changing.

I was a traditional tory voter and I wouldn't vote for Boris in a million years.

Their popularity with the middle classes upwards was always based in the perception of them being "the financially responsible party", or to use their own recent mantra, "Strong and Stable". As things stand in 2019... the Tories with Brexit have created the most financially irresponsible, unpredictable and unstable situations in the history of the UK.

Whilst the working classes have started to see them as the "daddy no-nonsense" party who is going to get rid of Johnny Foreigner wots causing all the problems and delivering Brexit "for the people".

They're going to sweep this election but in the long run they are in serious, serious trouble... their new support is fickle and HEAVILY rooted in the Brexit debate, it'll slip through their fingers like sand when it's (eventually) done, however it ends, but they will never regain the "sensible vote" of the middle-income middle-class that they've thrown to the wolves.

One is from 6 years ago. Any British person committed murder abroad in the last 6 years?

One is for crimes committed in his own country. Any British person committed crimes in this country then moved abroad?

Any horrific trafficking stories involving British people happened recently?

Scaremongering only works on people that share your prejudices to begin with. Using things like this to justify racism is to be wholly expected unfortunately.

Just shows how dumb the voting public are, and how easily they'll vote against their own interests if you spin them a lie they'll like more than the truth.

The area I live in is on a complete lock when it comes to the Tory vote and this area struggles with unemployment and dependency on benefits. People here have suffered under Tory led initiatives like Universal Credit and harsh sanctions that are designed to entrap vulnerable people yet they'll forget that as soon as the Tories speak about Brexit or immigrants.

The voting public, by large, are incredibly stupid.

I'm replying to this for the second time. As a person on the left I have a right to reply to challenges regarding my opinions on this forum.
My confidence in my opinion is not 'blind'...
I have never suggested anyone else is wrong or stupid.
It stands to reason that if opinions are opposed each regards the other as misinformed.
Mocking my posts on this forum as 'woke' ( as a left leaning member) has not and will not prevent me from posting.
That should not amaze you.

The voting public, by large, are incredibly stupid. It's the same here. A lot of the larger nearby towns are poor and plagued with drugs and unemployment, Universal Credit has been a disaster for the area, and yet there's a strong Tory vote in the POORER areas, while the village I live in (fairly affluent) which was traditionally full of Conservative posters, is now heavily leaning to SNP. Bizarre times. Like I said though, the Tories are going to lose that working class vote eventually because its a fickle vote... And when they do, they're going to find it near impossible to regain the traditional Tory vote that they've traded away.

The sad thing is, I don't think the Tories will ever lose that vote. These people won't wise up to the fact that the Tories treat them terribly as long as they keep going along with the Brexit fantasy and empty words about immigrants. It's too convenient for those people to blame scapegoats and whoever the Tories tell them to blame then to accept they've been voting against themselves.

its a fact, if you are say 21 you will not remember more than about 9 years ago politically - you may have read stuff but you wont recall living through it and indeed its wholly different being at home living rent free and being looked after by parents than it is in the next 10 years of a 21 year old when they have to pay rent, mortgage, food, car etc and work for a living (in general). Its then that politics really affects your life personally

broadly speaking as there are many exceptions like yourself, at home at 28 and not working or paying any outgoings
