This morning a member was banned from using Karma (had their privildiges taken away) because they were found to be issuing out loads of negative Karma, and for no real reason.
We are able to see who is issuing what, and if anyone is found out to be doing similar, you might have your access taken away too.

Taaa daaa.....
Yes, I have (unjustfiably)?? been stripped of my ability to give or recieve karma. It's like losing a sense or something, hard to desribe. It's almost like I'm a shadow on ths earth, mutated from what I once was, forever cursed to search the internet for my lost karma, my precioussssss.
What bothers me though, is that all the karma logs can be seen by the admins yet the person who has actually been purposely taking karma off individual posters and abusing the system is not the one who got punished. Amy21, I have not been picking on you and taking karma off you. That is not what I got punished for. I know who is constantly taking your karma but that person has got no punishment! Only me, yet I have not picked on one single person, and I have a reason for every negative karma I've given.
So why do I get punished?? Kinda unfair to me, I wonder if I create a thread to bitch about it can I get someone else punished??

OMG.. this is like rehab!
All I think of when I see the name of this thread is this....
Robbie Williams Lyrics
"Karma Killer"
(talking: You've been naughty...very very naughty)
Are you cut up
Or do you easily forget
Are you still around
Why haven't you managed to die yet
You could prop up the bar in hell
How do you sleep
You've never loved
Why was I never good enough
You thought you'd leave me falling forever
Karma killer
Needless to say
I guess you know I hate you
You're so full of sin
Even the devil rates you
I hope you choke
On your Bacardi and Coke
How do you breathe
Why don't you cry
How come you never ask me why
You're not a man stand and deliver
Karma killer
How do you sleep
You've never loved
Why was I never good enough
You thought you'd leave me falling forever
Karma killer
Karma killer
Karma killer
Karma killer
I hope you choke
On your Bacardi and Coke
Look what you didn't take from me
Look what you didn't take from me
Look what you didn't take from me
Look what you didn't take from me
I don't need to take revenge
Cos they're coming to get you
There's no hope for you my friend
Cos they're coming to get you
Karma killer
Karma killer
Karma killer
Karma killer
Karma killer
Karma killer

Lmao.. so Daniel.. pray tell... what should I do when some whiny bitch spits the dummy? Count to ten? Say a prayer?
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they
pissed me off.
Help me to be careful of the toes I step on today, as they may be
connected to the ass that I may have to kiss tomorrow.
Help me to always give 100% at work: 12% on Monday, 23% on Tuesday,
40% on Wednesday, 20% on Thursday, 5% on Friday.
And help me to remember: When I'm having a really bad day, and it
seems that people are trying to piss me off, that it takes 42 muscles
to frown and only 4 to extend my middle finger and tell them to bite
me.

Go on take my karma today, make a difference

Oh but maybe the lady doth protest too much?

Slarti has been banned from using the karma system because he has allegedly been abusing it.
I have been abusing it but have not been banned. Clearly this is favouritism.

I will just say *puts mod hat on* Is karma really worth it? It's some points next to your name.. I never even looked at mine.. now I can't lol, praises the turn off button.. We moan that all that the housemates do is argue and act silly.. perhaps at times we need to also look at ourselves.. it's just not worth all the upset over a few points.

It does yeah.. but it's all about how seriously you take forum karma points.. I mean people would think you are taking a tenner from them every time they lose a point lol. When, in reality, it's not worth getting so worried about.. the more you moan the more people take it away.. Yes, that's wrong and not how the system should be used..but those people will eventually come unstuck and be warned for it.

LOL, you've got the jist of it Amy!! I'm sure there are those who would say I was abusing it but they are the same ones who have access to the logs and can see that I didn't. I haven't picked on one single person, I haven't been giving karma out for no reason etc etc. This place has been pretty rubbish the last week or so with every second thread some crap to do with whether or not emily is a bleedin racist. And the emily crap then seeps into other threads. You'll have a thread "who is your favourite housemate" and some idiot will post "well it certainly isn't emily the racist bitch" and this is a week after she left. And the emily supporters have been doing the same. Now that's just flaming; pathetic little trolls looking for an argument. And it was happening even before "emilygate". Giving them negative karma is therapeutic and exactly what I thought the whole system was for. If this place had been better and there were more posts that deserved positive karma, then I'd have given it out!!
Why have negative karma when you clearly aren't supposed to use it??
In reality I got punished for this thread:
http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=61214&page=3
I didn't tip my cap enough to the powers that be and I suppose I should have known better than to try and have a laugh about something so serious as karma  I should have been respectful to the mighty mods when they told me you can't use karma for spelling errors, or for criticising people for taking it all too seriously. :bored: That's why I got punished, I probably need to suck up more cos the logs will show I didn't give loads of negative karma out and I didn't do it for bleedin spelling errors. Plus, like we've said others have been abusing it and no punishment. Natural conclusion is that it was something else apart from simply giving out negative karma which attracted the attention of our lords and masters!!
To be honest, considering all the secret rules about karma that we didn't know about, I'm probably better off not having it. My "protest" is not about getting my karma rights back, it's about being wrongly accused. Accused of giving karma out for no reason and yet I was never asked for a reason why I gave it out. I was just given the punishment.
Oh, and it's also a chance to get Stropz in trouble!!
Well, what can I say.... I'm shocked... I won't say too much on this subject.. but .. shocked... All I will say is that I'm with the majority here in saying that Karma should not be taken so seriously.
lily.
15-06-2007, 11:08 AM
It definitely shouldn't. But, to be honest, I think it's caused more problems than anything else and I bet Mark is regretting his decision to add it in the first place.

Slarti - I am pretty sure without clicking the linky thing (to lazy) which thread you are on about. I didnt agree with taking points away for spelling and grammer but I certainly NEVER made a complaint about your use of Karma! I said what I had to say in the thread and as far as I was concerned that was my two pennies worth done.
I hate these sweeping statements about MODS and fairness, I have no powers over Karma, none, nill, zip, nada so cant take Stropz evil powers from her even if I wanted to. I would recommend that you speak to Mark and let him know you are unhappy, if you have not already done so. We lowly Mods come in for a lot of flack when in fact there are so many things we have no control over.
I couldnt give a monkies who takes what from who, I dont think it should be a police state, you take it, you give it end of who cares in the big scale of things, it is meant to be a fun forum tool that people can choose to use or not use. If people hate it, turn it off, if they love it leave it on and do as you please with it is what should happen here.
I take Karma from people who get on my nips, or who make annoying posts, I do prefer to just give +karma though it makes me feel better!

Well, if we all look at this thread very carefully, we can see exactly what it was all about originally.
Forum member "Stropz" was injecting some humour into the forum & bringing the "Karma" situation into a brighter & more funny light.
But suddenly, "something-changed-all-that" & once again, accusations & more, regarding ("+" & "-" Karma) and who gave and who received and who took away and how many and where and when and more boring stuff like that:sleep::sleep:
Then we see that a few forum-member's names get mentioned within this thread and more moans and groans regarding the Karma situation, then accusations get brought about and moderators get accused of this & that, when actually they are doing (Nothing Wrong)
Well, there is a very simple answer to all of this problem:bigsmile:
1) Those who abuse Karma (lose the privilege of having Karma)
2) Those who complain about Karma (lose the privilege of having Karma)
3) Those who dislike Karma altogether (lose the privilege of having Karma)
4) Those who wish to publicly criticise mods & admins regarding Karma (lose the privilege of having Karma)
5) Those who cause any type of problem you could ever think of regarding Karma (lose the privilege of having Karma)
_____________________________________________
After that happens, everyone who enjoys Karma can live in peace and harmony & enjoy Karma for what it is, just a bit of fun.
Those who wish to cause problems over it, in any-way-shape-or-form (lose the privilege of having Karma)
That sorts the problem out straight away:thumbs:
Also, it works for many who do enjoy Karma, who don't want to have, what they enjoy, taken away by a few disgruntal troublemakers/complainers &:sleep::sleep::sleep: members(No offence!!!!) Who want to spoil what they enjoy(Karma)

I'm not in a very good mood. I had + 12 this time last week and one pr*ck after another has taken it from me. It brings my whole mood down. I've been on site all of this week so I've not posted much on the forum so who ever is doing it they're doing it for personal reasons. I don't find it funny at all. It makes me want to attack forum members who I feel may be respnsible.
I've given + karma to two people this week becasue they posted very good posts. I think that is how the karma system should be used. I feel that the karma system is being used by little cliques to big up their mates and anonymously snipe at forum members who they don't like.

You couldn't give me Karma negative or positive, as I have always had it turned off, right from the beginning.

It's not over reacting when I know that the system is deeply flawed plus as you have +26 how are you in any position to talk. I've given karma for a reason. i know that some forum members are devising karma strategies. it's a terrible system that will cause more problems than it solves.

So, my karma rating now gives me "no position to talk"? Well, that's a sad state of affairs indeed.

Hang on?
I thought this karma thing was for good posts or nasty posts not for something as petty as spelling speling wrning?
So if I forget to put a full stop on the end of a sentence, can some jumped up little guttersnipe take away a karma point?
I quite like the fact that some posts help people or make them laugh as I'm sure many others do. This is speaking as a very newbie so I'm sure my view is not as welcome as it is from an longer serving member. Don't worry I've played the forum game for a long time, I've owned my own groups for goodness sake and know what it is like but never experienced the karma system.
I'm wondering if I want to bother with it because to be honest I quite like my semi colons and what if little bbcherub (name plucked from thin air and not a real person that I know of) thinks I should be putting a comma instead? He/she'd be wrong of course. I would however be very happy if I wrote something which made someone laugh and if that person wanted to show appreciation then fine.
On the other hand, you then have those poor post from some dodgy Characters and that is when the karma system is great. I'd hate to think someone takes a point off just because they do not agree with something you say unless of course they say something insulting or hurtful then karma is beneficial.
I have said my piece.

Indeed it is. Mine was at +12 and most of mine was for good posts. Can you say that? I'm sorry but that is the crux of my argument. It is being used in the wrong way. There is no doubt about that.

Girth, I never once claimed I had +26 karma for anything other than others taking the piss out of the karma system. Look through my posts and it's clear that I neither take myself or anyone else's karma seriously.
If it's a badge of honour, then count me out. I'm not here to "win friends and influence people". I'm here for a laugh.

Not really. I dont like the way the system is being used. I don't find it fun the way it is being used at present. I like if my karma increases if I make a good post, but it puts me in a mood like I'm in now when I'm not even on the forum for nearly a week and some silly sniping pr*ck asshole has decided that he has something personal against me and has reduced it.

See, this is where you and I seriously disagree. On the point of it being a "system". I don't perceive it as a tool which should be accurate and portray the facts. I view it in much the same way as I view the TiBB member nominations. Sure, we know the same people will get voted, week in, week out, but it's just a bit of fun and if people enjoy it then what's the problem. I don't always participate in the TiBB members nominations and I like having that choice.
If the karma was compulsary, then your argument would stand, but as it is optional, then I really don't see what the problem is. It's something you either want to participate in, or not. How can you police it? Would you put the hours into policing how people give and take karma and what for? Plus it's easy to evade that as well. Say for example an admin asked me to justify bumping up Barry's karma (when clearly I'm only doing it cuz he's my mate) - I could easily pick out a random post and state how good I found it to be.
At the end of the day G, karma is a personal opinion. It's another member's personal opinion of your posts. Just because you weren't here for a few days does not mean that there weren't members online reading through a thread containing one of your posts. Maybe they didn't like it. Just a theory. Obviously it's more likely that they did it for spite, but again, it brings me back to the question.....

Exactly!!
And for wiglet, I was the one who raised the point of reducing karma for spelling. It was meant as a joke to highlight how random the karma thing is and how it shouldn't be taken so seriously!! It was in a thread where people were saying they were turning karma off cos they weren't getting as much positive as they thought they would. My point was, people will take karma off for the stupidest reasons.
And I have never taken your karma off ever, in fact your posts are usually very well written. And I like to see the proper use of a good old semi colon as well!!

You have been banned from giving/taking Karma until further notice.
After looking at logs, and what you have been posting in the Karma thread, it is unacceptable to be giving out as much negative Karma as you are, for no real reason.
It's not a game to see who can get the highest/lowest rating, and that's why I've removed your rights from it.
So now we all know that it isn't a game and it isn't a race to get the lowest or highest score. But I think most people see it as a competition to get the most (otherwise it's pretty pointless) but apparently those people would be wrong!
I'll post my very long reply next:
Slartibartfast
15-06-2007, 03:44 PM
I know most won't read this cos it's longer than 3 lines, but for those that do, we salute you!!
LOL, I'm honestly surprised at how seriously this whole karma thing is taken!
But I've checked the rules about it, and I don't think I've done much wrong. The ability to give or take karma I can live without but I'm not happy with the accusation that I have given out karma for no reason! I can explain every negative karma I have given out.
Is the problem with the amount?? There have been very few posts over the last week or so that I've enjoyed reading enough to give a positive karma. The vast majority have been yet again another thread on whether bl***y emily is a racist or not, or why is it ok for a black girl to say it but not a white girl. Countless threads on the same subject and then some pratt comes and starts yet another thread "OMG heres teh raesons I so strongy feel that emily is/isn't a racist, I just luv/hate her so mcuh!!!" And then that degrades into a exact copy of every other thread on the same subject. Damn, if I could have I'd have given out more! Thing kept telling me I had to wait longer! And then there other times I could go for ages without even thinking about karma.
Check your logs, look at the posts I gave negative karma for. Idiots starting new threads when there's already at least two on the exact same subject. Stupid posts that are just poor attempts at flaming someone, some pratt suggested I was racist for saying that charley spoke in an aggressive manner. Send me a list of all the posts I have given negative karma for, I'll explain them all.
With the two threads about karma that I posted in, firstly I was having a laugh with doc. Neither of us clearly take our karma scores particularly seriously and we were having a laugh with it. I suppose, on a strict reading of the rules, you could say we were working in a team which isn't allowed, but I think I gave 2 negative karma to him and they were about 2 days apart! Hardly much of a team member!! And my bl***y karma kept going up despite all my best efforts to get it down!
And I have never given negative karma for spelling mistakes!! I was fascinated by how seriously this karma thing was being taken, especially in that thread, and I posted that to get a rise and try to highlight how ridiculous and random it is. People take negative karma off others cos they like a different housemate, that's just as pathetic a reason as doing it for spelling errors! But like I said, I've never given it for spelling errors. Check the posts I've given negative for, there were no major spelling crimes, it's the content that bothered me more. Again, I was having a bit of a joke. Before that post, I'd given out maybe 3 or 4 karma and two were positive (mrluvaluva and potentialsuperstar I think). After that, I had a feeling I'd be being watched so I made sure I could stand over every negative I gave and I even gave few positive!! There was even a couple of times when I tried to give more positive and it wouldn't let me!! (i think one was for one of sticks' posts)
I'm never going to take it all that seriously and you're probably better keeping me banned! If you gave it back to me, I can't guarantee I wouldn't use it in exactly the same way. Maybe if there wasn't all the emily c**p going on, there would be less pathetic posts that deserve negative karma, but there's no guarantee of that either.
I have no problem losing my karma privileges, but please send me the list of the posts I gave negative for. I'll give you a valid reason for every one of them.
As of yet I have received no response

I find this hillarious that people are still taking karma so seriously, getting so stressed out about it and kicking up such a fuss. TRULY pathetic, laughable and cringeworthy that people actually get ''stressed'' and ''annoyed'' and even remotely ''bothered'' by somebody taking a karma point from them.
I'd say it was fair enough to an extent if it weren't optional but the fact it is optional makes their points a load of crap, to be blunt. It literally could be solved with ''a click of the mouse'' and you could turn it off - problem solved! The constant whinging would be stopped then and the Admin wouldn't feel as though their time has been wasted by adding it.
The bit i find even more funny is that the members doing the majority of the complaining are all adults. I do not understand what members like GiRtH are trying to achieve - honestly mate, are you just crying for the sake of crying? The karma system is optional, that's the best you're going to get, give up and let other members who enjoy it carry on enjoying it. Also, i don't think the ''-Karma'' should be taken away because i feel it defeats the whole object of the ''karma'' system.

I can understand what you say Slartibartfast
also, it is NOT very nice when you feel victimized or treated unfairly and I know all about unfairness and don't agree with it either.
However, the problem that you are seeking to resolve is hardly likely to be sorted in this way.
I know that when you make a big-song-and-dance about something publicly, it feels good and perhaps something may come from it?
Just because you have had your Karma privileges removed, it may only be a tempory affair & if you ask Mark nicely, "How long will your Karma priviliges be removed for", he may tell you the answer?
In a week or more, it may be back again?

Lay off the starburst Slarti.
After reading Legend's inspirational post above, I might have to put mine back on and award him some Karma for making some sense amongst this sea of halfwits we call TiBB

TRULY pathetic, laughable and cringeworthy that people actually get ''stressed'' and ''annoyed'' and even remotely ''bothered'' by somebody taking a karma point from them.
I'd say it was fair enough to an extent if it weren't optional but the fact it is optional makes their points a load of c**p, to be blunt.
I completly agree with everything youv'e said, Ant. Karma isn't meant to taken seriously, and it isn't taken seriously on other forums that I go on and that's why I wanted it here. At least it's optional with us!

I think I've come to the right "Paranoid Androids" thread here - I need to vent before I do a Nikki-style strop over how hated I think I am on here!

Chill girl. It's really nothing to get your knickers in a twist about. TiBB popularity is fickle. I'm hated one minute and liked the next. Just go with it.. :spin2:
