They better start digging, this works out at 700 trees a second or something ridiculous

Labour is pledging to plant two billion new trees in England by 2040 if it wins the general election.
The party is also promising 10 new national parks during its first term, as part of its "plan for nature".
The Tories want to plant 30 million trees a year, while the Lib Dems have pledged 60 million if they win power.
Friends of the Earth has hailed Labour's plan - which would mean more than 270,000 trees being planted a day - as the most ambitious of the three.

New forests are a great idea, I'd like to see more small wooded areas and reserves. I say highlight all brownfield sites across the UK that were heavy industrial areas of contaminated land, and let nature take over.

The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy project, that started in 2015, is planting 20 million trees by 2020 across the Commonwealth. Two billion trees, though? They're going to have to plant them cartoon style... the way Gromit lays railroad track.

Ethiopia planted 350m trees in one day.

I agree though, we're far better off laughing at people trying to find a solution while the candidate we support has no interest in climate change. Especially baffling for people with children.

I'm all for planting trees, but lets have a realistic target

"About 350m trees have been planted in a single day in Ethiopia, according to a government minister."

Yes but you are talking about that being done every day for the next 20 years, is that even feasible?

I have no idea. On the face of it it sounds ridiculous, but experts (not me) are saying we're on the precipice of catastrophe, so aiming for 2 billion and hitting 1.5 billion (as an example) seems like an ambitious target and something to aim for. You know full well whatever the target is we won't hit it, so go for the bigger number and see what happens.

I don't think mocking ambition when it comes to the climate is the right approach, but unfortunately climate change seems to have become weirdly political for some strange reason.

it has been politicised by the far left and not so far left and that is one legacy they will live (or not) to regret

No one on the left is refusing to take it seriously or act on the evidence. Climate science denial is actually a right wing phenomenon that started in the US, and somehow has worked its way over here.

why who is denying it here?

Boris was climate change daft as a mayor, he had a go a trump for pulling of the paris deal and once brexit is done he can address climate change from this small group of islands

2 trees a person, per year, it’s hardly an extortionate amount, there are machine that can plant thousands a day, it amuses me how over complicated people are trying to make it seem so it looks like a ludicrous idea

The Woodland Trust, the UK's largest woodland conservation charity, says several things need to happen to encourage a huge tree-planting programme:

Far more people need to be involved in tree-planting schemes at national and local government levels, and within statutory bodies
The UK needs to boost substantially its stocks of trees for planting
More money or grants need to be found for farmers and other landowners to persuade them to plant trees
Natural reforestation needs to be encouraged alongside new planting

"We know that the investment needed will pay back," says Darren Moorcroft, the chief executive of the Woodland Trust.

"It will require landowners willing to provide the public benefits that society needs, and public funds to support it."

so as long as the nice philanthropic rich billionaire land owners cooperate its all good :)

Its all well and good but tree roots can also do lots of damage to paths, roads ,pipes etc, lets hope they have the sense to plant them on greenbelt land, but that will leave less space for the housing,:hehe:

Which rightfully belongs to them but was stolen by the Tories

But Jeremy plans to rob the rich to feed the poor..the old will be the first to suffer.

People that have paid taxes and worked hard all thier lives, like the labour party wanted them to, they will have thier hard work stolen from them by labour...the very party who's ideals they followed throughout thier lives.

Yet the conservative party voting public are the gullible ones.
