RE2 is my game of the year and if RE3 manages to match that game then it'll be fantastic. Judging from the graphics (and how fast it's seemingly come together) I assume it'll use the same graphics and gameplay engine as RE2 which isn't a bad thing. Mr. X was terrifying in RE2 so I imagine Nemesis sprinting at you will be so horrifying.

I assume it'll be revealed at The Game Awards and released February/March. I've read speculation that they reckon Project Resistance will be packaged with it.

I hope they do a RE1 remake in the same engine tbh, I know there was a recent REmake as an update of the classic style but if they did it (and Code Veronica, which seems inevitable if 3 is as successful as 2) then we'd have the whole series more-or-less up to date.

4 actually still holds up well graphics wise, though I'd love it if they could do a release with more modern character control. I still love the game to bits but I played recently and the lack of ability to strafe feels so odd these days.

I think REmake1 is still fine. The tank controls and fixed angles help make the game what it is.

It's not bad, it would just be interesting to have the whole series with (roughly) the same over-the-shoulder style. Except 7, I guess.

I wouldn't expect a RE1 remake any time soon given how much the first remake holds up. I think the only reason why RE3 is likely to be revealed and released in a short window is because it's using the same system and resources as RE2 (not a bad thing).

I imagine they'll probably remake Code Veronica next, if anything.

I'd definitely like a Code Veronica remake, as I only played about an hour of it on PS2 for some reason. I think I got stuck on a puzzle and also, IIRC, I got Morrowind at the same time and got deep into that for months and never went back to CV. I vaguely know what happens in it from story points from Resi 4 - 6... but I actually didn't even know until quite recently that Chris was a playable character in it :omgo:. I thought the whole game was Claire.

But yes a remake of it seems very likely, especially with it being Claire, who is already established in REmake.

Again though I hope they DON'T fully remake Resi 4. I'd love a full remaster with proper widescreen / new textures / updated controls (and probably a difficulty increase to compensate, as modern controls would make the game too easy as it is) but generally speaking, I wouldn't want large changes to the core game.

I'd also be very interested in a 3rd person conversion of Resi 7, which I'm lead to believe would be very possible. It's the same engine as REmake and people on PC have even managed to force 3rd person perspective in it. The main problem being that the game doesn't render the player character's head (as you're never supposed to see it).

It's the weakest "numbered main series" Resi after 6*, I agree. I feel like it was rushed out after Resi 2's success and it sort of shows, it was nowhere near as refined as 1 & 2, in terms of both plot and setting. The Mansion and The Police Station were such memorable settings... but I honestly can't think of one memorable scene from Nemesis.

HOWEVER, RE3make is potentially a good opportunity to flesh out the storyline and characters to make a better game than the original.

*If anyone's interested in my order; 2 > 4 > 1 > 5 > 7 > 3 > 6

I rated 6 low bu I do enjoy the Leon and Ada campaigns while I think Resi 5 is just the worst one by far. I appreciate that 4 is a brilliant game but it's one I've never felt the need to revisit.

7 was a game I never expected to like but I really did love it. I love how, despite all the departures from RE it contained, that it still managed to be the most traditional RE game since Code Veronica.

They make too much money porting RE4 to everything capable of playing it to remake it yet. I think they'll get through the classic style games before they even think about touching 4.

A third person RE7 would be interesting but at the same time, it would lose a lot of what made it good, I reckon. RE7's first person perspective isn't one I want in all RE games going forward but I was fond of it for a one off.

I replayed 4 dozens of times in the 5-or-so years after release but I played again recently and, while the graphics hold up very well, the controls just feel wrong and I couldn't get past it :(. 5 I can appreciate is lowkey trash I really enjoyed it in a B-movie sort of way :joker:

You're meant to play it through 4 times to see everything though. Claire and Leon both have two campaigns, then you have the Hunk and Tofu modes.

Resident Evil games aren't long when it comes to individual playthroughs but there's reason to do multiple playthroughs most of the time.

True, once I knew the game I could beat Resi 4 at a casual pace in under 4 hours, and as a "speed run" in under 3 easily. I think it's technically possible to do it in like an hour and a half (with upgraded/unlimited weapons) :joker:.

Jill reminds me a lot of Lara Croft in the latest Tomb Raider trilogy and I think that kind of direction works well for her, I think.

It always seemed too easy to get away from Nemesis in the original game but it definitely looks like you're gonna have to fight tooth and claw to survive against him this time around. It looks way more action-y than RE2 did but then again, RE3 was the most action heavy title of the classic games.

Pretty much every RE game can be completed in 5 hours, they are never long games.

Resident Evil 2's remake was my game of the year last year and it's easily my favourite RE game. You need to experience the original to see how wonderfully realised the remake is.

A lot of the reviewers I trust are saying that Re3's a good experience and I liked the demo a lot so I'll be eagerly awaiting it on Friday. Hell, the short run time is a blessing, I'll have more than enough time to beat it without rushing before FFVII comes out.

I do think Resi 3 will be good fun but I'm expecting to find it fun in the way I found Resi 5 fun, if that makes any sense. More action oriented, more forward progression rather than one "iconic" location, etc.

Basically I just expect it to differ from RE2 remake in the way that the original differed to classic Resi 2; in that part of what elevated Resi 2 from "fun game" to "iconic and unforgettable" was the location, creepy "emptiness", lack of resources etc.

Resi 3 was when it started to edge towards the superhero fantasy of Resi 4/5 by giving you more guns, more ammo and more action over suspense.

Luckily I enjoy superhero fantasy as well and loved playing as armed-to-the-teeth ninjas in the later games :joker:. Resi 4 and 5 are simply not scary (because frankly, the most terrifying thing in those games is Leon/Chris :hehe: ) - but they're still plenty of fun.

I expect Resi 3 remake to be similar. Jill is going to be tougher and better armed than Leon and Claire in Resi 2 so it'll play quite differently.

Girl resi 4 not scary? WydI can complete Resi 4 on the hardest difficulty using nothing but the knife... It stopped being scary long before that. If you play through it with "gunz, lots of gunz", Leon is a one-man army :joker:. Everything should just head for the hills when they see him coming.

Will I get it or nah? I can't decide. I might get it on PS4 since its apparently pretty short and thus, I imagine, an easy platinum. I got 100% of the Resi2 trophies but I got in on PC. I don't know why I want trophies I just DO OK?? If I can't win Most Loved I can at least win another PS4 Platinum :(

Or maybe I should get Resi2 on PS4? That would be an extra easy platinum since I already know the game :omgno:

I'm really enjoying it so far, it lacks any sort of horror but then again, so did the original RE3. It was always the Aliens to RE1 and 2's Alien. It's completely different to the original too which I actually quite like. RE2 is full of iconic moments so they couldn't really change much aside from the things they did but I always thought that you could change up RE3 a lot. As long as you have Jill and Nemmy, you're sorted.

Also that whole intro part was amazing, probably the best opening to an RE game ever.

Finally, I am hopelessly addicted to Resistance.

It tightens up your aim quicker and makes your shots more likely to crit, I think.

That's why I'm wondering if it does much at all! I suppose aim would help if you're shooting from a distance but I tend to charge in and headshot from a couple of feet away anyway :joker:

No one is realistically going to beat the game in two hours on their first run through. Pretty much every classic RE game can be completed quickly with a speedrun that requires knowledge that you won't have on the first runthrough.

RE2 can be completed in 50 minutes, iirc, doesn't mean that most players will do it that quick though.

With RE3, you have the different difficulties that almost serve as new versions of the campaign since item and enemy locations are remixed and Nemesis acts differently in the harder modes. He's faster and more persistant. In order to unlock everything, you also need multiple playthroughs.

Finally, you also have Resistance which is basically Resident Evil's take on Dead by Daylight and that's it's own game that comes with the game.

If you liked RE2, you'll love this game, if you like Dead By Daylight, you'll most likely like Resistance (although it DOES have more of a learning curve than DBD does).

Do what you will but there's a lot more to the game than meets the eye.
