I don't think most people over here are very much one side or the other really like it seems to be in the UK (or England I suppose, Scotland and NI seem to vote differently?) tbh both our "main" parties are very similar anyway. I never vote for either, neither does my dad as far as I know, my mom changes depending on what's been going on around voting time. So the answer is none of us stick to voting for the same people or parties all the time

Fianna Fail and Fine Gael seriously may as well be the same party. I usually just go independant or sometimes Sinn Fein, I like Mary Lou as leader

I guess their policies have come closer together over the years maybe, I remember my grandmother being particularly anti Fine Gael :laugh:

My old mum has tactically voted SNP to keep the Tories out . The TL and I will be voting SNP of course but this does not follow out parents over the years

If I had to go one way or the other I'd probably slightly lean towards Fine Gael, mainly because I can't stand Micheál Martin though

Yes, but that's a given really, as me and my dad are both in Scotland, the only realistic voting options are SNP and Tory, and neither of us are likely to commit a ridiculous act of self-harm like voting Tory in Scotland.

[edit] My mum was a Labour voter her entire life so I'm not really sure what she would vote if she was still here. I actually suspect she would still staunchly vote Labour even if the vote share potential was tiny.

After the war on Iraq , lib dems claimed they would never of gone to war & their policies attracted a few new people to vote for them :rolleyes: .

But it's easy to say "we'd never go to war" after the damage has already been done , then Nick Clegg came along and made Lib dems look like a joke :facepalm: .

The Lib Dems, a decade ago, had a real chance to "play the long game" and slowly win over voters. I reckon if they had, there's a pretty good chance they'd be the Tories' main opposition by now, or at least within another decade. They were the logical transition for traditionally Labour families in a post-"old industry", post-union UK. Students were very attracted to Lib Dem and would probably have stayed aligned with them into their professional lives.

But instead they sold their souls for a short term sniff of government with ConDem and absolutely wrecked any trust/confidence their voters had in them. Sad.

Ahh when I was a kid my parents were both vocally Labour, they even put those little posters in the window. SNP were very "niche" back then though, only a couple of MPs usually, it was the classic Lab/Con battle in Scotland. Both of my parents were Nurses. Apparently the Tories have been ****ing them over for decades.
