View Full Version : Are you going vote tomorrow?

I'm not interested who you are going to vote for but just wondering if you were actually going to vote for a party?
I know so many people who have said they are either not going to bother voting or will attend and spoil their ballot as voter apathy seems to be the highest I have ever known.
So if you are of age to vote...will you get out and pop a cross in a box or just not bother?

I'm not sure I agree with that Kizzy. I would rather women attend the polling station and spoil their ballot than not turn up at all. That way, they are still respecting the women who fought to give us that right and exercising their democratic right to vote but if they don't believe in any of the parties manifestos.....why should they choose?
I will vote but I can understand the apathy.of some voters

I will vote but I can understand the apathy.of some voters if you spoil your paper you are not voting .. the ballot paper is void. No manifesto is going to speak to each of us individually on every policy promise as we would like. You vote by and large on the ideology that syncronises with your personal principles.
This is how I understand the ethics of voting.

If you live in a safe labour seat like I do, voting for anyone other than Labour is ineffective, so spoiling it is at least some form of protest.
kizzy, everyone has a right to vote, not vote, spoil their vote, what you are doing is trying to guilt people into voting, that’s not what the suffragettes fought for, they fought for the same rights as men who could choose to vote or not as they saw fit
spoiled votes are recorded in the voting figures, apathy is recorded in the turn out.

I wouldn't say it was apathy, more complacency. If you don't agree with the people in power enough to vote to keep them in then vote for someone else, even if they have no hope of winning, use your vote as a protest dont waste it. Remember the monster raving loony party? Many would vote for them as they were disaffected by the main parties but they still had a vote counted.
To me if you really can't bring yourself to vote for one of the parties in the running this at least makes some sense as a protest vote.

I think it's a decent way to protest if you really can't bring yourself to vote for anyone. Not voting at all will just go down as "couldn't be bothered" where as a deliberately spoiled vote says, "I want to vote, I made the effort but none of you represent me"

I haven't been to vote yet, am going after work but everyone I have spoken to who has voted so far said the polling stations seem a lot busier than usual. Anyone who has voted, was this the case where you are too?

They all are, Peston,Neil, Marr and that other little guy at the debates the other day 99% of political commentators are. That's not brand new information.

I'm off on my way to work, will set off in a min in case it's busy. What a lovely sight though queueing on a cold December day to make a difference. :)

I went this morning and there was about ten people there which was definitely more than last time. I don't think our area has a high turnout for votes though which is why Tories have a stronghold here despite working against the interests of the people.

If you live in a safe labour seat like I do, voting for anyone other than Labour is ineffective
Even more so if everyone thought like that and didn't bother to vote.

It's why this country is ****ed, you can offer up a ****ing essay on all the factual reasons why you shouldn't trust Boris and tory voters will respond with 'Well he likes dogs so he mustn't be that bad so I'm gonna vote for him xx Who needs the NHS anyway? The Tories keep telling me it's broken and I believe them!'

i told the women about Cherie spoiling her vote and they said they already knew and are waiting for her in England where Cherie votes, despite being an irishman - the woman was furious and called her a "hooligan republican"

I can see my Polling Station from my house (up the street) and it's been absolutely heaving since early this morning, we had to queue to get in for a few mins earlier. It's rammed again now with all the parents picking kids up from school voting on the way home - queues around the building. Probably be the same again after 5/6ish when most finish work.
Usually you wouldn't even know there's a vote on here because it's so quiet, like one or two people every 10 mins if that. :joker:

If you find that personal you need a thicker skin.

Someone left a suspicious device at a polling station in one of the towns nearby, they had to evacuate and carry out a controlled explosion :/

I still dont understand why every is all for labour wanting to borrow 10s of billions of pounds and spend it on unneeded things such as Free Higher Education, Wifi and whatever without ever paying it back.
Also the instant £10 an hour minimum wage for everyone will destroy the economy and will send the cost of living sky high you will be paying £5 for a freddo

A 10% increase in minimum wage will result in a 2000% increase in the cost of a freddo bar? Your maths are exemplary.

There was once a panic on a train I was on, because someone had bought a new pair of shoes in Glasgow, changed them on the train, and then left their old manky shoes in the new shoebox sitting at a table seat. I remember when they announced "It's just old shoes" :joker:.
