Has anyone seen this yet?
It makes me long for an actual full length sequel. Spielberg said he would never make another E.T, but he did agree to this, so maybe there's hope yet.

Oh that's the same actor who played Elliot too isn't it?

Not sure a sequel would be a good decision though, I think some movies are best left alone

Henry Thomas was great in The Haunting of Hill House last year and I think he's returning for season 2 (Bly Manor).
Brilliant advert, but yeah, I wouldn't want an actual full length sequel.

I wouldn't want a sequel personally, it's definitely a one off.
Truly brilliant advert though, so well made.

I can't believe you watched all of season 1 and didn't recognise him! :o
It started filming in September and is apparently released in the first half of 2020.

I didn't  which is odd because he hasn't changed that much but I guess I wasn't connecting the dots until I saw him standing next to ET, I've always been more of a name person than a face though :p

Funnily enough, I found his eyes and his voice the giveaway.

They wrote a story treatment for a sequel at the time.
In July 1982, during the film's first theatrical run, Spielberg and Mathison wrote a treatment for a sequel to be titled E.T. II: Nocturnal Fears. It would have shown Elliott and his friends getting kidnapped by evil aliens and follow their attempts to contact E.T. for help. Spielberg decided against pursuing it, feeling it "would do nothing but rob the original of its virginity. E.T. is not about going back to the planet".

Yeah, I agree there shouldn't be a sequel to E.T.

there shouldn't be a sequel to E.T.
In all seriousness though... E.T. is HENCH with powers - making things fly, flipping a van through the air, resurrection/healing powers...
...and he's meant to just be an "average kid" of his species; that's the whole point (him meeting and befriending a normal Earthling kid).
So... imagine what his parents abilities are.
And they seem to be peaceful, maybe some sort of exploration team charting life on other planets? Alien exobiologists? The Wild Thornberrys from space? peaceful, anyway, and doing the intergalactic equivalent of travelling around in a van with their kid.
SO...
On their planet, WHAT ARE THE SOLDIERS LIKE?? ****ing Jedi that's what. Technologically advanced terrors with psionic powers.
But it seems like they're benevolent or, at least, not hostile by default and might be quite reasonable.
So bear with me here.
Earth gets invaded by a hostile alien species, Independence Day style. The humans have been fighting back but the war is going badly, cities are falling.
Cut to the Pentagon. A group of scientists and military chiefs are sat around. "We have to call him... it's time." they say. One picks up the phone. "Hello. Yes. We need them. You have to come in."
Cut to a few hours later, in walks ELLIOTT! After E.T. he worked for the government as a specialist on alien life. He has training in military tactics and spent time with the SEALS. He's generally pretty hardcore.
They walk to an elevator, and down to a secret basement level. Elliott picks up a dusty old phone attached to an array of machines.
"Calling home. Calling home. We need your help."
A pause...
Radio static...
Eventually the speakers crackle to life...
"....Elliiiiooottttt?"

Seen it 2 or 3 times now , Elliott is all grown up.
I'm sure the actor quit acting or only gets small roles now  .

I'm sure the actor quit acting or only gets small roles now  .As Mosh said right near the beginning of the thread, he had a large role in The Haunting Of Hill House on Netflix last year, which was one of the bigger Netflix productions of the year. Just that no one actually realised it was him until seeing this because he looks quite different as an adult.
Unlike Drew Barrymore, she just looks like someone took kid Drew Barrymore and used the stretch/skew photoshop tool on it.

I haven't seen that Netflix show , i didn't realise well that's good if he's still getting roles.
I know the actor who played Elliot's brother quit acting and went back to a day job.

It is strange that some child actors are totally recognisable as adults and others not... I was mind-blown when I found out that Josh Brolin (Thanos from MCU / Cable from Deadpool) is the older brother in "The Goonies". Although once you know it's actually quite obvious.
