My favourite quote from a recipient of the new years honours.

Holocaust survivors Mindu Hornick, 90, and John Paul Hajdu, 82, are also both honoured with MBEs for their work in education and commemoration.

Describing the award as “an absolute surprise”, Ms Hornick said: “With everything that is going on in the world today – with Islamophobia, antisemitism and other unacceptable things that are happening – I think it is important to educate young people.”

Well said Ms Hornick! ! Bless you.

its just a wiki page describing the odd event but its not really evidence that its a problem?

1380 fatalities and injuries caused by electrical fires in the UK every year. Average of 27 a week and 4 a day.

that is a problem worth worrying about imo

Don't you have any opinions of your own? What makes you think Islamophobia is prevalent?

They clearly say in the quote "in the world today".

Basically illustrating how important education is to stamp out ignorance.

When she's making a specific point about hatred and bigotry... you know being a holocaust survivor I imagine her work focuses heavily on those issues.

What? Jews are not the only group to experience prejudice.

Just because you couldn't give a sh*t about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Indeed I do - my opinion is that Islamophobia is currently not a big problem, as there's no reason to think it is  If you disagree, I'm sure there are events and other reasons for you to think so?

Oliver's back with his rose tinted world view where hatred, bigotry, homophobia, racism etc don't exist because his neighbour's black and drives a nice car. Lovely.

I've never said they don't exist  individual bigots aren't going to evaporate any time soon. But no form of bigotry is currently big enough to be a societal problem (in the UK)

Kizzy seems to take things at face value, and just assume these problems exist with no real reasoning.

i think "suffer prejudice" is a little off the mark regarding jewish people and what they have endured in living memory.

jews are a race of people. Islam is a collection of bronze aged middle eastern ideas

I didn't use the word "suffer".

Regardless of what you think of Islam, that's your excuse for disregarding millions of people as deserving of abuse. Says more about you really.

Apparently they were gonna recognised the 4 men who were heroes during the latest terrorist attack but thought it was too soon.

They are also refusing to recognise people who helped during grenfell until the enquiry is over

What the heck, both groups of people should have been honoured - what's more Knightly than taking down a terrorist?!

As for Grenfell, whose ever fault it was doesn't affect the heroism of those who helped.

It's better to wait for the conclusion and then everyone who deserves to can be honoured together rather than some being left off one year due the ongoing enquiry.

My posting these comments from this wise old person appears to be making some people very uncomfortable. .. I can't think why.
