View Full Version : In Memory of those singers whos careers we lost this decade

Staying relevant and current in the music world is never easy, and while some have thrived, unfortunately we've lost a few along the way since 2010. Lets remember those who failed and flopped and may not recover to join us in the 2020s.

Nelly Furtado (2001-2012)
While she reigned supreme in the 2000s with hits like Promiscuous, Say It Right and Im Like A Bird, Nelly struggled this decade with her 2012 album Spirit Indestructible not lighting the charts on fire. I think she released another one too but we'd all given up by then.
qjvXmpOTtdQ

Cher Lloyd (2010-2014)
Once known for her appearence on the 2010 series of The X Factor, she is now more known for the "who didnt flush the toilet after they've 'ad a SHET" video. Cher struggled to keep up with her 2014 release 'Sorry Im Late'. She might've even had another album since then.. I guess no one knows.
sdbyG2MrBHk

Dev (2010-2012)
She had all the makings to be the CharliXCX of the early 2010s. She released her debut album 'The Night The Sun Came Up', but somewhere around the 2012 mark she fell off the map completely and no one has heard from her since..
OOAMfUJ3tsc

Taio Cruz (2009-2012)
Around the turn of the decade, Taio had some big party hits such as 'Break Your Heart' and 'Dynamite'. He even had a song with Kylie Minogue. The party didnt last long.
Vysgv7qVYTo

Stooche (2012-2013)
They could've been the Atomic Kitten of the 10s, but after album delay after album delay (and that messy TLC cover) the girls finally released their album in 2013. Only problem was by then everyone had forgotten them.
RgbKKZWZuQo

B.o.B. (2009-2012)
We all remember that one with Bruno Mars.. and that one with her from Paramore.. and that other one..
IoBP24I2lwA

Wiz Khalifa (2010-2010/2016)
Amber Rose's baby daddy had that one song about colours back in 2010.. and that fast and furious one.. he released a couple more (I think?) but don't ask anyone what they were called.
UePtoxDhJSw

Eve (1999-2013)
She was once one of the biggest names in female rap. In the late 90s-early 00s she had a number of hits like 'Whos That Girl', 'Love Is Blind' and a couple with Gwen Stefani! However after a long hiatus, her 2013 comeback didnt do enough to get her back in the charts.
UqUmDVjB4n0

Plan B (2010-2012)
While he did release songs prior to 2010, no one cared until then. He had a couple of hits like 'She Said' and 'Ill Manors', but the hits didnt last.
rQjh9H-ymK4

Shontelle (2009-2010)
No one really knows what happened to her, some say James Arthur ruined her career.
NWdrO4BoCu8

JLS (2009-2012)
Another X Factor act, they had some hits back at the start of the decade, however as of late, they've become more known for troubled headlines.
YiunXTVBOe0

The Saturdays (2008-2012)
Everyones favourite generic girl group gave us classics like 'Up', 'My Heart Takes Over' and that one they did a campaign to get to #1 (which actually worked!). In recent years they've all gone on to do their own thing. Rochelle does This Morning, Mollie does her awful radio show, Frankie does depression docs, Vanessa did IAC and the ginger one is just happy for the experience.
JjDjxLTr5qg

Flo Rida (2008-2012)
We all owe Mr. Rida a thank you for introducing us all to Kesha. But theres only so many times you can release the same song with a few different lyrics before it gets old.. and it got old.
cSnkWzZ7ZAA

Example (2010-2014)
We all remember his sweaty face. He had a couple of club bangers that still get played every Saturday night down at the local slug and lettuce. He did recently release a new song, but for all we know it could've been an old demo from 2010 he found lying around.
CLXt3yh2g0s

Jordan Sparks (2008-2010)
I think she came from American Idol or something.. she had some hits, the one with Chris Brown etc. I guess she didnt have the staying power.
PIE5QtkxzvM

Azealia Banks (2011-2014)
Messiness aside, we can all agree she had some BOPS. But no one can really be blamed for the destruction of her career other than herself.
0oM_9ca8hxE

Christina Perri (2011-2012)
Her short career highlight was singing a song for Twilight. She also had that song about jars.
rtOvBOTyX00

Kreayshawn (2011)
Was she ahead of her time? Has 'her time' come and gone? Will she ever get 'her time'??
6WJFjXtHcy4

The Noisettes (2008-2012)
The band whos career got a kickstart from a car advert. They had a couple of hits back in 2009, and had moderate success in 2012, but have been driven off the map since.
KRFHiBW9RE8

Jessie J (2010-2014)
Jessie had the potential to be huge.. she had the voice, the edgy look, the catchy songs. For some reason people got tired of her constant messiness. She was the Halsey of the first half of the 10s. After her collab with Nicki and Ariana, her music career disappeared. Her biggest achievement since was winning some singing show..in China.
KsxSxF3JKeU

Alexandra Burke (2008-2012)
One of the biggest and most memorable winners of the X Factor. Alex had bops like 'Bad Boys', 'Broken Heels' and 'All Night Long'. Her 2012 album and the infamous 'elephant in the room' moment didnt interest the public and she was dropped by her label. She did have another album but did anyone even listen?
Xr1CL6KWENY

LMFAO (2009-2012)
In what seems like a distant memory, a group called LMFAO actually existed.. AND had a #1.
EBRhoB5V_fA

Natalia Kills (2011-2014)
The woman who was once called 'Verbalicious' had a few hits under this new name in the early 10s. However after her cringewothy appearance on X Factor NZ, she changed her name to 'Teddy Sinclair'.
5ZrZI6OmezE

Demi Lovato (2008-2017)
Will she be left in the 2010s? Only time will tell.. Should she be left in the 2010s? Yes. Some people aren't cut out to be in the public eye, and as shes clearly proven time and time again, Demi is one of them.
nmjO1p9Oxrk

Alexandra Stan (2011-2012)
Picture this. Its summer 2011, the lads are watching geordie shore, the girls are watching towie, everyones sending messages on their HTC phones and this song is playing in the background. She was the one hit wonder we never got.
sS76eS34Y0c

Rizzle Kicks (2011-2013)
Short lived duo, Rizzle Kicks had a string of catchy songs for a couple of years in the early 10s. They also had that weird music video with James Cordon dancing around.
iL51Tsh6Sdg

Pixie Lott (2009-2012)
We all know why Pixies career went downhill. It was that hideous haircut she had in the 'All About Tonight' video. and the 'Kiss the Stars' video was enough to give September a run for her money.
8s6duvbnC0A

Fun. (2012-2013)
One of the most annoying songs of the decade. 'We Are Young' came from this group. For that alone, i'm glad they faded to obscurity. The lead singer also had that **** off dull song with P!nk (whos career was never quite the same after).
qQkBeOisNM0

Owl City (2009-2012)
we ALL remember that song. They also had one with Carly Rae Jepson!
psuRGfAaju4

Alexis Jordan (2010-2012)
No one knows where she came from or who she was, she was merely a light breeze passing through the charts back in the early 10s.
26jKtELitQE

Paloma Faith (2009-2016)
Dont deny it, we've all seen her slowly slipping away, Sigala song or not. For someone who appeared everywhere at the start of the decade, on every panel show her agent could book. Shes seemingly disappeared for the most part.

Those shady write ups took my life and gave it back. :skull::joker:

Example and LMFAO really released songs that played in clubs that made you drink, release the hoe out of you and hook up with anybody past 3am (I'm guilty as charged for that)

Azealia Banks got scalped by Lana Del Rey so she got what she deserved.

And some of those artists or bands names were really not helping, or predicted it was never going to last that long.

I have the LMFAO album. 2011, year I turned 18, first year of uni, memories! Party Rock Anthem, Champagne Showers and Sexy and I know it!

But one you missed I think which was on the same level for me that LMFAO was on... Far East Movement! (2010-2012). Even though one of their first hits, Girls on the Dancefloor was in 2007 (this wasn't popular though, i found it through music sites)

And some of those artists or bands names were really not helping, or predicted it was never going to last that long.

Example was at an event i was at 2 years ago. My friend who works in social media spoke to him and he basically said that he stopped because his type of music wasn't resonating with the current batch of 18-21 year olds, i think he outgrew making those types of songs, thats what i take from that.

established artists like a Adele, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Taylor Swift

they don't necessarily rely on current charts anymore which we see in Madonna's experimenting with newer work which isn't necessarily easy chart topping material like in her early career days

Kelly Clarkson having her own talk show where she has a Kellyoke section where she covers songs of now too as well as other old songs, which she proves she can sing literally anything, also having now won 3 times as a coach on the voice

Adele we all know is quality over quantity mentality which i respect :)

my point is, younger newer generations need the charts more to establish themselves within the music industry

And with the exception of Swift (and Adele) I haven’t enjoyed any of their music since they rebranded, I was a huge Kelly Clarkson fan, and still am, but Piece by Piece was ok, and the latest one was just dull.

Katy Perry, Gaga, Rihanna and Madonna stopped releasing enjoyable catchy songs and tried to be artistic, which has resulted in the only songs I’ve enjoyed from the latter 3 being songs from movies or features.

I understand the need to be more artistic etc and enjoy the songs they’re releasing, but there’s really not many consistent pop singers anymore, outside of smaller ones such as Carly Ray Jepsen, who aren’t making it big sadly.

Although give me any amount of ****e Katy songs over stuff like Stormzy.

:idc: Kelly could've had loads more hits anyway but she is smart and not to be blinded by money hungry music producers

in the Kellyoke's she proves week by week her vocal skills are still stunning, she also got quite a few A-Lister guests on her talk show

i see Kelly more like the american Adele, also quality over quantity

and broken & beautiful was perfect as soundtrack for a family movie Ugly Dolls :D maybe dull for your liking but great as the soundtrack for that

Rihanna also had a venture into acting in Battleship movie alongside Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum
