View Full Version : What do you believe happened to Madeleine McCann?

Sorry if this seems distasteful as a thread, it’s not meant to be. Just thought it would be interesting to see what everyone on here thinks as it seems everyone has their own theories.
I’m not too sure myself. There’s so much evidence that implicated them, but it would also just seem impossible for them to cover it up (and I don’t get why they’d still want public attention on them after all these years, if they are somehow involved.)
Very strange case.
Accident in the apartment when she wasn’t being watched leading to a cover up by the parents in my opinion.

This. Madeleine got overdosed on the drugs they gave her leading to them disposing of her body somewhere and covering it up as a kidnapping.
I believe something similar happened to JonBenet, her brother killed her and her parents covered it up with the ransom note and everything to save their asses.

Yes I also think this. Tbh there is a lot about this case that doesn’t really add up in my opinion and I also found it odd that the parents refused a lie detector to prove their own innocence.

Why would you leave your children in an unlocked apartment with access by a street out of your view at night, in a foreign country, all alone?
Why would you do so just 24 hours after your child told you they sobbed themselves to sleep the night before as they woke up in an empty apartment and couldn't find mum and dad?

I dont think she was abducted ,I think she wandered off and fell into a well/shaft etc ,apparently Portugal is littered with them and there was also building works going on, or an accident by the parents, I definitely dont think it was an abduction, but whichever her parents should have been done for neglect at least

A child crying when her parents are not there to comfort her in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country is an issue I wasn't commenting on and certainly wouldn't have debated again with you after the last time this was debated and you claimed millions of families left their children alone when they were abroad and when I asked you for proof of that (as is your usual MO),you went all shy on me.

An extremely poor argument.

I have actually never given an opinion on what happened to Madeleine as I do not know. I have commented on them leaving 3 kids under 5 unsupervised and stated I think they were woefully negligent as that is my OPINION.

Possibly. In my own mind if I was in this situation being accused I would want to do everything I possibly could to prove I’m innocent. I think there behaviour at the beginning of the investigation was very suspicious and the fact that they refused to answer a lot of questions in the investigation, for me just confirms my suspicions of them even more.

I agree with this. He was living in the resort, he had a history of being a predatory paedophile, he liked little girls... I am not shocked that this would have come as a surprise to the Portuguese police.
I am surprised this has taken so long to come out considering how "obvious" it now seems in hindsight.

Anyway, I go over and back most times about what happened but I think I generally lean more towards it just being an absolute crazy ****-up by her parents and she was abducted, the case went too worldwide and she was killed by the abducter.
There was some creepy dude caught in someone's apartment close by around the time it happened, think that was on some documentary I watched but it's been a while.
I understand why people would think her parents had something to do with it, I did before too but I just don't think they'd still be going on about it so many years later if they killed her.
Also crazy her parents haven't got done in some way for neglect

I don’t believe they did kill their daughter...but their actions of negligence resulted in her demise. They bring it up every year because they just want to keep the appeal alive in case she is still out there somewhere...you can’t blame them for that...and now they might finally get their answers and have some closure.

I think her parents were completely neglectful idiots who thought it was okay to leave 3 babies home alone so they could go out and socialise. I don’t think they did anything to her. Them being doctors would know more than most people about what kind of meds to give kids to make them sleep... I highly doubt they would ‘accidentally overdose’ her. That one has always made me lol... it seems stupid to me.
What I really think is that she was kidnapped by a pedophile and eventually killed. Whether it’s this German guy or not, who knows. I definitely think it would have been someone who was watching them the whole time and waiting for the chance to strike. Sick, but unfortunately there’s people like that in the world. I wish the absolute worst for them.

I think she was abducted, sexually assaulted, murdered, then buried in the hills somewhere.
Yes
very sad case

Could be plausible considering they left the children alone several nights, so I imagine many people around would have noticed they left the kids and maybe took it in turns to check on them so knew when to strike.

Exactly. And if someone like this suspect had been living at the site, He could easily have been waiting for the right moment for a really long time.

I'm just going to go to bed and you all can play good/bad parents with each other, good night
until a body is found we will never know with any certainty what happened to her. Either way, i hold the parents ultimately responsible and always will

This case is such a tragic one with no conclusions and years of confusion and clouding the water being seemingly enacted.
I've held differing views myself and was persuaded by points on here to look nearer home of Madeleine's life, for blame.
As you indicate we may never find out what really happened to her.
However, nothing could have happened, if at least one Parent even had stayed with all the children.
So like you, I hold the view the parents were responsible for whatever was Madeleine's tragedy by whoever.
They may well be haunted by this loss of Madeleine and feel genuinely devastated.
They never needed to be however, had they just made sure their children were safe and secure.
At home or anywhere else.

Good post Joey, and I agree

Accidental death due to the parent's negligence which they then proceeded to cover up.
Sky News just reported that one of the holiday complex’s waiters apparently tipped off the suspect .. gave him details of when and how long the McCann’s were leaving their kids alone !!!

That would be no surprise...the staff would have been very aware of the groups pattern every night.
as much as I would love to blame the parents I just dont get why they would drag it out like this for so long, surely they'd want it swept under the rug and forgotten
unless they just want the money idk

I can only think that the camper van drew some attention and now it’s been highlighted it may trigger some memories.

for a lot of time i thought she was killed by accident and the parents covered it up
but now i'm starting to think she was abducted.
But i will never understand how they could leave their kids alone in a hotel room.... yeah they kept checking but anything could have happened to them and unfortunately it did.
How come so many people, are coming forward now
They’ve shown his photo and his two vehicles and his house .. bound to trigger some memories... 400 is a surprisingly high number though .. guess a few will be idiots messing around

How is this just being found out now... that's what is the most suspect
German police tonight said on Sky that he has evidence that she’s dead but wouldn’t say any more .. they’re desperate for the public to come forward and say where they spotted him and the police will check those areas for her body ..also said the guy used his mobile outside the McCann apartment hours before she went missing :(

This is what I sadly think, I do hope that Maddie gets justice

I find it really bizarre and random that this German sex offender is now the main culprit, they're acting like they knew it was him.
Don't get me wrong he sounds like a twisted sicko and they should throw away the key ,but was he really involved in the disappearance of Madeline I don't know.

Strong points there all through.
I know new information can come forward in cases.
This is, and was, a huge case and has been for over a decade.
With endless requests publicly and internationally for ANY information over the years.
Whatever the outcome here, I have my own suspicious mind going over all possible scenarios.
I did have my mind altered on here from chatting with others on here, reading their conclusions and re- addressing my own view at the time.
The sad thing is and your points and what you've said, kind of highlight this.
There has been so much confusion created from the start of the investigations into Madeleine's disappearance.
So much clouding of the water too.
It's not surprising, even with the strong statements being issued now.
There'll be doubts, this could be the right person either.
Really, really very sad.

Also if he WAS the reason behind Madeline's disappearance and death ,have they not asked him where he dumped the body ???? Grim and horrific I know
But there's still no closure.
We all suspected she was dead sadly ,but it's the not knowing which will continue to haunt.
And I've said this a million times but I can't help but think if the McCann's were a poor chavvy couple on the council estate , then they probably would of been investigated for child neglect and had their other children taken off them by social services .

Absolutely right.
Like yourself I didn't believe she would be found alive.
Your last paragraph too, I agree 100% with.
That's what I cannot get past in all this.
I don't care how many times they say they were checking on them.
For both Parents to leave 3 young children at night, just to go and socialise.
Is at the very least bad parenting and really as you indicate, it's blatant neglect.
Dangerous neglect too.
Desperately sad this whole case is.
