Meanwhile, hate preachers in the UK chant death to the infidels and much worse - what happens? More or less naff all.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a 17 year old Neo-Nazi referred to as an Evil Punk.

Is there not a slight difference between saying something and actively planning to commit terror crimes?

Um.... I'm going into full snowflake mode on this :/
It just looks like the immature rantings of a loner kid to me, unless these plans were waaay more sophisticated than we see here and/ or he had made purchases of items to be used in an attack I can't see the reason for the sentence.
Those 'instructions' are made from information freely available CONTEST strategy and are well known targets requiring contingency planning.
Not saying there should be no action but putting young impressionable/ vulnerable mind into that environment? ...he comes out in his 20s and what?...

Yeah have to say I kind of agree with you on that

There's obviously more to it if he was punished so harshly, he must have been serious about it.

Agreed. Plus, it says he was planning it for nearly two years, he'd have been like 15 when he started.
He's not so much a "neo-nazi" as a loner who needs to get laid is probably disenfranchised, bullied, failing at school etc. Locking him up for a stretch is only gonna make him worse, and he'll still be young and able when he's released.
Better off slapping an ankle tag on his, maybe prescribe therapy, take him to a youth group...

Looking at his list of targets, he probably thinks of himself as an anarchist.
I'd bet dollars to donuts he has a t-shirt and/or poster of Che Guavara :joker:

In fact I'd go so far as to say this kid is a scapegoat, to be seen to be doing something about far right wing terrorism.
Is he 17 now or was he in March last year? The evidence they have was from th 2yrs prior... so when he was 14/15.
Its just a bit odd.

That happened in the States not the UK though but yeah rape and violence against women seems to be universally unimportant it seems. Horrific story though, that guy sounds absolutely psychotic, surely a danger to society in general not just women I would say

Maybe it is, some of my views are left wing  and some are probably nonsense :joker:
I'm really against incarcerating people who aren't a threat to the public, and despite his demented crayon scribblings, I'd say he isn't.

it does sound older, but it also sounds like a teenager trying to be intellectual, if that makes sense? But yeah I lean more toward agreeing it was probably copied or at least influenced from another source.

Have you read the article? It's one of the things he was convicted for. Dissemination of terrorist publications. Mind you the mail have made a really convenient summary in the article of the potential targets listed. That was nice of them wasn't it?

It seems he was quite heavily involved with trying to source and develop weapons
His attack preparations included researching explosives and trying to obtain the dangerous chemical ammonium nitrate.
His trial heard he had visited websites on firearms and was in communication with a gun auctioneer.
After his arrest in March 2019, police found him in possession of instructions showing to make bombs and ricin - and that he had distributed firearms manuals online by uploading them to a neo-Nazi website.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-51022706
...he was planning to carry out an arson spree targeting synagogues in the Durham area using Molotov cocktails...?...
“Speaking after sentencing, Det Ch Supt Martin Snowden from Durham Police said: "It is never an easy decision to investigate, to arrest and prosecute children of this age.
"We only do this when we think it is the last resort for us to go down that line.
"Prevention is always better than prosecution - we would have always preferred to engage earlier and divert him away from these beliefs and this activity."

I wonder if there would be so much sympathy for the boy if he was an islamic terrorist and not 'just' a neo-nazi. You only have to look at America to know how much death and destruction an extremist teenager can unleash. He might not have been able to get his hands on a gun but he would have likely attempted an attack in some form. They don't jail teenagers on terrorism charges just for being misunderstood....

In this article it states there was no targetted attacks planned so that's odd.
He had already been referred to PREVENT he was an autistic minor so who was at fault here... why was he given access to the internet given his obsession?
There were multiple failings here that for some reason it's thought will be amended by throwing him in jail :/

What about? ..
The view would be the same from me, yes teenagers can be extremists too this autistic young man was identified at 13, he was far from misunderstood, they were well aware of the threat he posed.
My thoughts are could something have been done sooner, and is prison the best place for him?
