I read there are more Greggs shops in the UK now than there are McDonalds. Good to see them doing well. If I go into Greggs I'm always struck by how nice and friendly the staff are.

Piers Morgan probably gave them so much publicity and they didn't have to spend a single penny on it. :clap1:

Piers Morgan: "Vegan sausage rolls at greggs??? RAAGEE"
*people at home*
"Oh weird, I'll have to try that lol!"
*off to Greggs*
"One vegan sausage roll please!"
*nom n...*
"YUCK! Blergh! This is disgusting! I'll need a real sausage roll to take the taste and memory away! One sausage roll, please!"
*nom nom nom*
Thus, doubling their sausage roll profits :omgno:
Well it can't be down to the sales of its festive bake...minging.

I really dislike Greggs, my local independant bakery is far superior, but great they are sharing the profits with staff

That's good
nothing wrong with independant bakery stores.
It's always good to have a master baker in the high street

Pretend you got food poisoning and sue them - you can't reheat and sell food after hot-holding it (the things they keep them under to keep them hot the first time).
I got SO much free food when I worked in a kitchen because things that are still in hot-hold at the end of the night have to get binned :hehe:.

I'm really happy for the workers, it's nice that they're being rewarded!

Good for them, it's not like the managers knead the dough.
If the workers are on universal credits they recieve the bonus at the end of january but then it's taken out of the uc payment for March. ..so basically Greggs have just paid the government 7 million. ...is this correct?

This is what I'd read on the subject, too. Workers aren't really getting anything out of it. Might even screw their budgets up for March, too.

Not every Greggs employee is on Universal credit surely

Yes, pretty much.

They'll need to bank the money in January and keep it to cover the shortfall in March and even then, depending on various technicalities, they might actually end up worse off.

It's minimum wage retail so any with kids will be, unless they have a partner who is on much more than they are. I doubt it's all of them but I'd guess at least half.

How does UC work? Is it something like ... You're entitled to £X per month, and if you're in work you still get money, but they take off what you earn? so surely that wouldn't mean they're worse off, but they're just getting the money from Greggs instead of UC?

Entirely depends on circumstances as it encompasses all of the various different benefits. Certain parts of it will cap the number of hours you work to still receive full payments and then any extra you earn is then deducted.
