The Trump administration took further steps on Friday towards rolling back healthier standards for school lunches in America championed by Michelle Obama, proposing rules to allow more pizza, meat and potatoes over fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
The new proposals would allow schools more flexibility, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a statement, adding: “Because they know their children best.”
Brandon Lipps, a USDA deputy under secretary, outlined new menu standards drawn up by the the Food and Nutrition Service agency. They would allow schools to cut the amount of vegetables and fruits required at school lunch and breakfasts while giving them greater scope to sell more pizza, hamburgers and french fries to students. The agency is responsible for administering nutritional programs that feed nearly 30 million students at 99,000 schools, the Washington Post reported.
Some outlets noted the irony of the new proposals being announced on former first lady Michelle Obama’s birthday.

He’s determined to roll back all the good things any Obama did, he’s an insecure mess, if he wasn’t so diabolical, I’d almost feel sorry for the sad little man

What a petty little man, he's only doing this to lash out at the Obamas because Barack was more popular than he'd ever be and unlike Trump, Barack managed to serve two terms.
...this is something that’s been announced on Michelle’s birthday as well, the well-being of the children of America are in the hands of a child, sadly...for some children, too many children...their reliance on balanced nutritional value comes from their school meals...it’s such an important thing ...and it’s such a crazy concept for a school to think of itself as educational, but to show ignorance in school meals...when he throws his might around with other countries, he talks about the wellbeing of America ...the wellbeing of America starts with America’s children ...words come out of his mouth but those words never seem to follow any thought process....if obesity in children is child abuse, then Trump is abusing the children of America...

It's wrong what he is doing imo if I'm to look at it through my adult lense, but if I was one of the children in an American School I'd be very happy with this new policy.:joker:

Jake is that what you'd say if your kids were only served junk food in schools?? .
Then people wonder why obesity is such an issue.

Take a packed lunch. It's the parents' responsibility to make sure their children are properly fed. I'm no Trump fan, but it sounds like he started the obesity epidemic in the US that's actually been going on for decades.

obesity is a problem what should be taken serious by everyone
too much weight isn't good for your health, also too little weight ain't good for your health
so probably best solution is a good variety in sorts of food in schools, 1 day bit of junk food, but rest of the week mostly healthy AND tasty foods since healthy foods can be tasty too
Fond memories of my daily pizza for lunch from the school canteen till bloody Jamie Oliver came along

They started selling pizza at school cafeterias like a year before I finished. There were people who’d just buy the whole pizza and eat it to themselves :skull: pretty much all the options at that school were high in fat and salt

It's not about only serving junk food, it's about having the choice..kids have rights to imo and should be allowed the choice...double pe though for the fatties

Pizza has always been an option but there needs to be more healthy choices

Schools have a responsibility too, that's why parents can be fined for removing kids in term time.
They have a responsibility to provide a balanced nutritious meal, they don't as we found out ourselves in Jamie Olivers programmes a few years ago. The outsourced company was found to be spending the bare minimum per child, delivering the meals which were then heated up. Slop like turkey twizzlers. It was an eye opener for mums like me who grew up with school dinners cooked on the premises by kitchen staff.
There was, as in America a backlash and changes were made... Now all that good work is being undone.

Surely kids can be educated enough to choose more healthy options, they will eat what they want to anyway, I presume other foods are on the menu aswell.

Yes choice being the operative word

It's a school not a restaurant. ..There's limited choice.
Anyone remember the pic of trump trying to feed mountains of fast food to athletes?
It's that mindset we're dealing with.
