The Scottish government has narrowly won a vote to keep the EU flag flying over the Edinburgh parliament building after Brexit, despite being accused of undermining the impartial status of Holyrood’s governing body.
The result came at the end of a fractious afternoon in the Holyrood chamber, with the Scottish National party government facing heavy criticism for taking up parliamentary time with the flag motion and another debate about independence, which was likewise won by a small margin.
The flag vote, which the SNP secured by nine votes with the support of the Scottish Greens, reversed a previous decision by the Scottish parliamentary corporate body (SPCB) – a management group made up of members of each of Holyrood’s parties – that the flag should be lowered at 23:00 on 31 January, the moment the UK officially leaves the EU. This is the first time that Holyrood has overturned a decision of the governing body in this way.

Not flagwankery again. Is that stupid term still being flogged?
Scottish people are going to fly a defunct flag over their government building. If that's not "flagwankery", I don't know what is. How petty. They might as well fly the Jolly Roger.
Scarlett.

Don't worry, Union Jack will soon be a defunct flag too

Also, there's a differenct between flying a flag in protest and waving your little £1 flags around in European Parliament like some kind of naughty schoolboy, disrupting proceedings.

Can I suggest merging Falgwankery a bit more and make it "Flankery" rolls off the tongue better

Can't we put it with all the other ridiculous made-up words rolled out just to insult anyone who may voted differently from you? It sounds like something a 12 year old might find amusing.

I have no problem with everyday Brexiteers, I personally believe many of them have been misled with false promises, thats my personal opinion, but flag waving, overly jingoistic populists like Farage make me sick.
Also, who do you think the rest of the world is basing their perceptions of Brexit on?

Farage has built a career on such displays. People respond to it and he's basically a champion of Brexit so that means his words and actions have sway with brexit voters otherwise he wouldn't do it.

I hope the rest of the world understands that one man does not represent the whole country. Especially as that man has never been in power, except as a rather poor MEP.
I have no trouble with people on the left or with people who voted to remain. But we had to listen to the idiot with the European flag and the megaphone "STOOOOOOOP BREEEEXXXXIIIITTTTTTTTT!" every time there was any kind of news report from Westminster. Do you have a term to describe him? And I see Labour rallies where they fly their Stalin flags... a man who killed more people than Hitler. Are they flagwankers?
So in conclusion, call other people what you like, I am not required to look at it.
One is disruptive, one isn't.
Both are disruptive, you need another difference:hehe:

Yes ,and don't forget the T shirts with the slogans '**** Brexit' seem one rule for some and one rule for others, some people need to grow up and accept that Brexit is happening , they wont change it by moaning about it all the time , besides had they won ,no doubt celebrations would be taking place.
No differences then..waste of money, brain power and the scottish governments time...bunch if hypocrites still.

I can't say I'm overly fussed about which flags anyone is flying. It does just seem like posturing to be honest. That goes for Holyrood and Brexit etc.
I mean I don't think rUK can really say much about Scotland here because the Union Jack has "patriotic murrr" people dribbling precum more than most it seems.

That's your prerogative , people moaning all the time is a bit sad really , and wont achieve anything, most people will accept it and move on, live their life and be happy.
Yeah, you won, can't stop us moaning about it though, and we plan to keep doing so, indefinately :hee:
And people will continue to point and laugh at the sore losers.

Brexiters would be utterly lost without 'remoaners' as they wouldn't have anyone else but themselves to blame for their own decisions and distract them from the consequences of what they've put into motion.
Honestly, the remain side could be completely silent and brexiters would go searching for any 'remoaner' activity to complain about.

Farage being a troll again in european parliament, that's nothing shocking about that whatsoever
at least with UK out of the EU, happy that the Farage and brexit party goons are gone from that parliament too :flutter: no more trolls disturbing our EU anthem

Well said.
Scraped brexit through by a pathetic margin and 53% of voters in the last election voted for parties calling for a second referendum.
A hollow victory.
Manyf us remainers will become rejoiners from tomorrow.

Tories got 43% of the vote, in what way does that "speak volumes"?
