View Full Version : I may be moving out this summer

Denver

So I had my name on the council list and had to attend some sort of workshop yesterday (which is mandatory for new tenants in my area) and they said although I'm on Band 6 I should be able to find a flat deally easily especially 2 bed flats as single people on benefits turn them down because of the bedroom tax and parents with children turn them down for houses.

There are a few high rises by me that I wouldnt mind doing as long as it's not to high up and they said if they have to move you out of an high rise because they are mnocking it down they put you top if the waiting list and pay you 7k.

The council are more helpful then I actually thought and I'd only be paying about 300 a month which is almost half of what private rented costs by me.

Hopefully the year 2020 is the year of independence.

Yeah Cork City is gone ridiculous as well.

I was shocked when I thought Adam meant £600 a week but when I think about it you'd probably pay that in Dublin, the average on the southside of Dublin is €2250 I think :skull:

They said if I dont get somewhere that has bee redecorated already (due to them fixing problems) they said I'd get a £125 B&Q credit card that's for paints and paint brushes or wallpaper or whatever but you can spend it on stupid stuff as they wont allow you

I need to think of carpets and getting a shower fitted aswell

So i viewed the flat and was really happy with it and accepted it but now waiting for them to get back to me.

but tonight i started to feel scared, nervous and very anxious is this normal?

ive lived with my mum for 25 years and while i always expected to move on this came much quicker then i anticipated and ive been wondering if its the right decision?

Its fair to say i have no idea what im doing in regards to bills and im going about it all alone which is a worrying factor what if i forget to pay a bill?

Try not to worry about bills too much, most are really flexible now, like you can change due dates to most for the day you get paid I believe. I know Sky do something like this for sure because you can change the payment date from the set top box etc and stuff

Josy
27-02-2020, 05:26 AM
Adam congrats on the new flat!

It's normal to be anxious and worried about such a big step, first speak to the housing officer, they will give you a ton of advice about bills, setting up your electric, gas and so on when you go to pick up the keys and sign the papers, they also give you some paperwork with emergency and useful numbers etc (at least they do here)

Dont worry too much, just enjoy the experience, things will fall into place.

Being nervous is normal, my son moved into his flat over a year ago now, he has direct debits for all his bills and gives a meter reading (though I have to prompt him :oh:) so he is not over or underpaying gas and electric, you will get a discount for your council tax and down the line you can rent a room to help with the bills if you feel like you are overstretched
most people would give their eye teeth for the opportunity! sit down and do a budget, see where you can make savings on stuff you are paying for now, like can you live without Netflix for a bit, what do you pay for your phone, how many takeaways do you get, you might want to pull back on some of that stuff for a while, but it will be worth it to have your own place, 25 is not that young to move out, lots of people go to Uni at 18 and manage by themselves

Congrats!
