Do you struggle with them? Do you find them hard to watch. Do you find them difficult to relate to?

I watched them a lot when I was young but not as much recently.
I watched them a lot when I was young but not as much recently. Before the days of Sky and the Internet, we were a lot more exposed to them, growing up, than the young ones of today.
I do wonder if many of today's younger generations, go seeking them out much, or prefer to just stick in the modern times that they're used to and know.

I’m not a big film watcher and I personally wouldn’t go seeking out to watch one of these older films (but then I don’t go out my way to watch modern ones either). I could imagine some of today’s younger generation would be still be interested in these films though as they’re from a time when there was no special effects, CGI etc. They’re more contemporary and the story telling in some are probably a lot more innovative than what you’d see in some modern films nowadays. I would imagine these older films would be of interest to those who want to pursue a career in Media as it would mainly be a source of inspiration for them.

The only black and white film I watched was Tarantula.
Despite my fear of spiders, I enjoyed it. :omgno:

I struggled with The Haunting, it was a bit slow, but I might give it another chance sometime, sometimes you're just not in the right mood. Never seen Hush. Hush sweet Charlotte.

It’s these subtleties that I think some of the younger generation seem to miss and maybe don’t understand. I think as well that some don’t really watch a film from an ‘art’ perspective especially since CGI and stuff is so popular, the art of storytelling is kinda pushed back a bit (I feel anyways).

There only one film I remember (vividly) and that was ‘An Inspector Calls’ from 1954 which we had to study in school.
If I had to recommend a film to a newcomer who wants to explore older movies, (I'm talking old Hollywood, before The American New wave, which began in the mid to late sixties) Then I think a good film to start with is 12 Angry Men. It's a great film and it's an easy watch. It was the film that started me getting into older movies, about 10-15 years ago.

I love 'em. Billy Wilder is one of my fave directors. Check out all his films from Sunset Boulevard, Ace in the hole, Some like it hot and The Apartment
Years ago yeah.
Lazy Sundays are...different now though.
Bette Davies is in Hush hush sweet Charlotte, great actress Alf, also liked her in Whatever happened to baby Jane.I recommend the film "The Heiress" for you, starring the fantastic Olivia de Havilland. A tour de force of a performance by her and a pretty tidy film.

...Billy Wilder....The Apartment is one of my all time favourite movies...
Was it because that's all there was when you were young? When I was growing up back in the 80s, you used to always get them on. Laurel and Hardy film's, Abbott and Costello film's. We even got the Harold Lloyd show, weekly. My old man would always watch them, and there was only one telly in the house back then.

Dont mind them at all.
Rebecca, Casablanca, early Hitchcock. Some classic horrors and comedies.
Marlene Dietrich in Blue Angel, that film made me cry.
City Lights by Chaplin.
Wasn't some Fellini's stuff black and white? Like La Strada

Laurel and Hardy are great.
Harold Lloyd's were beautifully constructed.

I like them alot. More so like late 50's/early 60's stuff where it's a little more edgy than previous years.
I LOVE "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" and the old Hitchcock movies. & although it's a little later, Woody Allen's "Manhattan" is a fave (black and white).
Something very sharp and classy in the filming, "classic Hollywood".

Whatever happened to baby Jane is so tense, one of the best thrillers of its time.

The only black and white Film that I've watched is Psycho and I liked it.
Of course it's dated in certain areas, but the story holds up well which is all I ask for.

Even as a child I loved old films and I watch a lot of them on the Talking Pictures channel. If you love film surely anyone, of any age, would be interested how the industry has evolved? I love old Hollywood stuff, but I'm particularly fond of old British films, Ealing Comedies, Hammer Horror, WW2 propaganda...... I love them all.
