A mother from Devon
dragged her kid out of school for this.

Maybe she should go and tell people off in India and China, instead of a country which is making steps toward being greener ...
not enough steps in my view tbh, but still

I'm not condemning her ,so laugh away ,all I said is surely it could have waited , what is the point of us being told to be careful and being vigilant when some don't care ? Already some sports competitions and schools etc have been closed, so what the point in any of us caring, lets just do what we want, ? It may be an over-reaction , but it may also NOT be, then will we still be laughing

Exactly , but if things like this gathering of masses of people can go on what is the point of the NHS etc telling us not to mingle as much as possible, and if it all goes tits up the same people will be moaning that we didn't get any advice.

It's very typical of the Right to focus on the small things to undermine the big picture.
No, Greta isn't going to spread the Coronavirus by making an appearance and one day off school isn't going to hurt the children's education.
Also the whole attitude of 'Well, why isn't she going after ASIA ANd INDIA?!' is just an excuse for complacency and laziness. She's not a superhero, she can't save the world but if she reaches people and makes them more environmentally conscious then that can only be a good thing, aside from the Right Wing wanting to live in denial, of course.

a day off school is bad and its not been one has it. and to say that a large gathering in a city centre is not going to spread a highly contagious virus is just false news

Surely if you're so scared of Corona and you aren't just using it as an excuse to push your own agenda then surely you should be saying that the best place for kids wouldn't be at school but at home. After all, Japan has closed schools in the wake of the outbreak.

But illnesses pass like wildfire between kids! Surely if being out in public is too dangerous then putting them all in one place for six hours a day isn't good either.
If you're arguing that public events should be stopped for fear of Corona then encouraging kids to gather at school doesn't make much sense.

Surely you are not comparing a PR stunt to a childs education at school? :conf:
If they can cancel the 6 nations then this poorly disguised left wing stunt should never have gone ahead.

Previous posts say otherwise.
If you're gonna pretend to be fearful of Corona, you can't pick and choose what is acceptable and what isn't depending on your political leaning.
If a gathering at a public event is risky, so is a school. You need to figure out what you are actually trying to say because your position is steeped in hypocrisy as it stands.

I don't think any of us are fearful of the virus, we are far too superior for that, we could never get it,:smug: ,no one is accusing Greta for spreading anything so stop trying to make out that those of us that have pointed the mass crowds out and the virus are somehow trying to blame her, and are 'fearful' no one has said that , but we have been told crowded functions have been cancelled and some places where crowds congregate are also closing ,so all that is pointless if people are not going to adhere to the advice , so get off your soap boxes no one is accusing her it just seems reckless to do it at this point in time.

So you're criticising them for listening to someone about the environment and telling them to do something 'useful' when you haven't done anything 'useful'. By listening and being more environmentally conscious going forward, they have already done more than you.
Great way of spreading Coronavirus throughout our schools ..
I’m still not sure about a long term school refuser coming to our country spreading the word that school kids going on strikes will save the planet .

Greta may be popular among the 8-10 year olds, a bit like the Bay City Rollers were in their day, but she is pissing off the majority of adults, and as it is them that create the pollution and make the decisions, it's not going to have the desired result.

I also noticed that their is a kind of split in the sexes too ... women seem to be a little more tolerant of her antics whilst blokes are just simply dismissive

...I don’t think it’s a gender thing and I don’t think it’s an age thing either...obviously Greta is a leading voice among young people regarding climate change...but there are many adults who admire her as well, including David Attenborough and Prince Charles....those who are less enthused by her are generally those who are part of the world governments that she addresses...
