May sound like a dumb question but does anyone here eat food that’s maybe a day or two out of date? Or do you just choose to throw it away once it’s expired?
If it’s chicken or any type of meat I’d bin it straight away but I’ve just eaten a GU lemon cheesecake that expired on the 11th and it didn’t taste unusual at all, even gave it a good sniff before I ate it just to be safe
Anyone else...?

If it isn’t mouldy and doesn’t smell weird, sure, anything more than 2 days is a nono though.

I've heard cheesecakes become deadly if eaten 4 days after expiry date. Something to do with mascarpone cheese mixing with oxygen.

To be clear are you talking "best before" or "use by" ?, Best before can usually still be eaten after the date . Use by depends as it usually spoils quickly.
Some things get mouldy quick like dairy items.

How are people saying milk? :yuk: Milk immediately tastes NASTY as soon as it's like one day past the expiration date! Certain foods I'll eat as long as it's just a feeew days past the date.

If it's not mouldy, stale or doesn't smell bad then yeah.
I can get an extra week out of my bread because it doesn't go bad until about two weeks despite the date on the pack being only a few days in advance.
Best before dates are only a guideline anyway.
I freeze all meat/fish as soon as I buy it so I don't have to worry about that going off.
I’ve eaten loads of bread then just noticed it had a bit of blue mold when if was too late ..

This reminds me of when my Mum replied to a facebook message of "hi <insert my my mums name> how are you?"
9 years later she replied "yes fine Jan how are you?"
she did not know this as she does not use facebook much and has tech issues
She was like "Oh Jan sent me a message" and I was like "er maw that was 9 years ago and you just replied now she was like "och It nivver wiz?"

Never meat or dairy - those saying milk etc (and yes... Cheesecake...) it's really not a good idea, you can give yourself an off stomach with dairy that has turned very slightly but still smells/tastes fine. Probably not going to do any damage but you might end up feeling pretty nauseous for a day and spending some time on the toilet .
Things like bread are fine unless they're mouldy... And you'll know about it if there's even the slightest hint of mould because the taste is strong and obvious so you probably would neven swallow it. "Stale" bread (gone a bit hard) is fine if there's no mould, might not be appetising but is usually fine as toast.

Meat no. I keep my bread in the fridge, so it lasts longer.
I think it depends, fruit is ok, but anything else it depends if it still smells ok?

Ew bread goes dry in the fridge. Although as a pro-tip - you can toast bread straight from frozen so if it's just for toast, you can keep bread for months.
Fruit and veg I don't think should even have dates on them; you can tell if it's good by sight and touch and it often lasts way past the date, but ALSO can go smelleh before the date depending on how it's stored. You can't go with the dates at all! I've had "ripen at home" stuff that hasn't even fully ripened by the best before date . Nothing worse than a powdery plum that needs another 24h to juice up :nono:
Marsh.

Bread decays faster at cooler temperatures so good luck with your stale bread Ness. :hee:

I'll do what human did for thousands of years before they started printing sell by dates. I'll use my nose and my common sense.

Only if it’s like a day otherwise no and things that are over their “best before” taste like sh*t anyway
I’m gonna bookmark this thread. .. could be very useful in the coming months
