BIG BROTHER CANADA SPECIAL STATEMENT REGARDING END OF PRODUCTION

MARCH 24, 2020 | POSTED BY: STAFF

Global and Insight Productions announced today that, in light of developments in Ontario on the fight against COVID-19, effective today Big Brother Canada Season 8 has ended production.

“Big Brother Canada is a labour of love for so many, and even though it hurts to say goodbye to the season, it’s the right thing to do,” said Big Brother Canada Host Arisa Cox. “On behalf of the incredible people who put this show together, thank you to everyone who started this journey with us. Please take care and be safe!”

At this time, Big Brother Canada has no plans to resume production at a later date. After a truly unprecedented season, the show will take its final bow over two episodes Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. ET/PT and Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

I would not be surprised If this was it altogether. At least a hiatus is in the cards.

I think that meant for this season?

Idk, I feel like they might let them get to 10 before reviewing it. I think this series’ mess is definitely an anomaly and because of the worlds events the network might give them a Chance next year.

Also think the ratings are still quite good so idk why they’d axe it again?

It's a valid question.

It's a valid question.

As valid as the question would have been a week/month/year before this season started.

The shows cancelled cause of coronavirus. End of. The province it's recorded in is locking down social gatherings and non-essential work. The fact the season was a mess is irrelevant. Whether they decide to not bring it back for another season is up to whether Canadians wanted it... which they did when it was cancelled, so I imagine it'll be back next year.

Maybe, maybe not.

They are taking a huge loss from this season money wise etc. regardless of the ratings. Canadians can want it all they want, but if there is no money to produce it, it does not matter.

Hopefully they do, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't. Sad thing is it's not their fault that this is happening.

it hasn’t been good since they switched from logo, or just got worst.

the first three (four maybe) seasons, especially the first season were great felt like it was the first refreshing start to the franchise in a long time. Since then it’s just followed the same repetitive **** BBUS has been coming out with for years.

Maybe it's for the best... I don't want it to get to double figure seasons and have more bad than good ones.

Insight Productions, which also produces “The Amazing Race Canada” and “Battle of the Blades,” faces an unrelated $35-million class-action lawsuit alleging a variety of violations of Ontario’s Employment Standards Act, including unpaid overtime, vacation pay and holiday premiums, due to contracts that didn’t comply with the act.

The above part of the article is particularly worrying. That + the losses from this season due to it being unfinished + possible aftermath of additional lawsuits and claims made by sponsors + workers etc.

There's nothing damning in that article at all about a future season. Everyone was shutting down in Canada. They didn't want to work and risk getting sick and no EI. Has NOTHING to do with future seasons.
