I know that this is a sports related topic but I feel it's part of a wider issue and gives more people to have a say on it if put in here.

Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Serbia and England following incidents in Sunday's European Under-21 Championship match.

It will investigate Serbia for racist chants from their fans at Nedum Onuoha and the conduct of their players both during and after the match.

The conduct of England players after the match will also be looked at.

Meanwhile, the Football Association has made a formal complaint to Uefa over the alleged racist abuse.

The FA has complained about racist chanting from Serbia fans towards Onuoha.

And an FA statement added: "A complaint has also been submitted over the further racist abuse directed at England players by at least one member of the Serbian team in the tunnel after the match."

England's Justin Hoyte is thought to be the player targeted in the tunnel by at least one opposition player.

A statement from Uefa said: "In regard to alleged racist chanting, we will instigate proceedings against the FSS (Serbian Football Association) over the misconduct of their supporters.

"Proceedings will also be instigated against the FSS for the improper conduct of their players on two occasions: following England's second goal and after the match.

"Uefa will also commence proceedings against the Football Association for the improper conduct of the England players after the match."

All the cases will be discussed at a meeting of Uefa's control and disciplinary body on 12 July.

Everything started from the second goal when they did not have respect for a player who was on the floor

"We have a policy of zero tolerance for racism," Uefa spokesman William Gaillard told BBC Five Live Sport.

"Any incident of racism is completely unacceptable.

"We always do carry out an investigation whenever there is an incident because we want things to be clear."

England's 2-0 win clinched a place in the European Championship semi-finals.

So then we have two separate issues of racism, one from the Serbian fans and then the Serbian player in the tunnel after the game but what punishments do you think should be handed out?

Personally I think the player should get a hefty fine and a long ban from football and as it's hard to identify all of the fans who took part in the disgraceful chanting I think Serbia should play their next few games without any fans in the stadium to send out a clear message that it cannot be tolerated and they should be severely frowned upon.

I know it's harsh on those who are innocent in all of this but a message needs to be sent out and this is one of the only viable options. In the past we have seen the FA's of the different countries involved getting fines but I don't think it's a big enough deterrent.

More education needs to be put in place in these eastern European countries that have a number of problems with racist chanting to black players.

Do you also think that in cases of racist chanting the players could make a stand against it by just walking off the pitch during a game?

Your views please.

I agree with dan I mean I didnt see the game because i was on a plane flying back home but I read the reports and saw it on Sky Sports News. I think your right the player should get a fine and a ban and the next few games by serbia should be played behgind closed doors or even thrown out of the next compettion. They need to put a stamp on this fines just arent tolerated because if it was then this wouldnt keep happening

The fines have been so meaningless in the past and all, even it was heavy fines though I could not see it putting the fans off because basically it's not them getting the effect from it.

One thing that has annoyed me about this whole affair is that UEFA are waiting until after the tournament has actually finished before they have the meeting to decide on the punishment so Serbia have no chance of being chucked out of this tournament.I guess a points deduction for the next u21's tournament that they compete in might be a route to go down?
