View Full Version : The seemingly impossible task of getting back to work?

Cherie

If you listen to the phone in's its 50/50, with some people whose businesses are in ruins wanting to start back asap, and more saying no way, and what will happen to their children if they have to return, although I would imagine if they do have to go back, the scheme that is currently in place for key workers would be expanded to essential workers or those that can return safely?

what are your thoughts?

I work from home so it won't affect me at all

Mr C has gone back but he can social distance plus he drives himself.

I don't know how people are going to be able to manage to access public transport in a safe way?

The Government has begun reviewing its furlough scheme, with planned options including cutting the 80 per cent wage subsidy for British workers.
Taxpayers currently cover the wages of 6.3 million people whose jobs were shut down by the coronavirus outbreak, but Chancellor Rishi Sunak aims to “wind down” the scheme gradually over coming months, the Standard has learnt.

I think that the numbers infected with covid will be much less now than they were prior to lockdown, so even without social distancing, it should be a lot better (and safer) than it was.

For people like myself, who work in places such as hotel restaraunts, we're expected to be closed for a long time to come, so surely it will continue for people like ourselves who literally cant get back to work?

I would jump through any hoops and go dressed.in full hazmat gear if it meant I could go back to feeling productive and useful again. I hate the fact that I am relying on the Gov for my wages....I want to work and I'm ready to work. I drive myself there and we could rearrange the office to maintain social distance regs and utilise Zoom or Teams for meetings and interviews. Fingers crossed they allow it soon.

I'm doing a bit from home and a colleague who lives near our premises is going in packing up orders during the week. I don't mind working from home actually. We're allowed to partially open (as in take and send out orders) because we supply a lot of HSE and Pharma. Probably won't open our doors fully until the second or third phase of the Lockdown plan though, wouldn't be worth while before then

The Underground is going to be so problematic but I don’t see a way they can really get round it it’s the same with the buses too. I mean I live further out of central London so I never use the tube but the buses still get really busy especially during peak times (obviously with what’s going on they’re calmer at the moment).

They will need more trains running at certain times and less in the 11- 3 slots

Create 7, 8, 9, 10, 11am starts and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 finishes

Keep people working from home at least 2 days a week but more where possible for the foreseeable

Will you be wearing a mask at all?

Yes I will have to in order to take the tube to the office and back.
They're trying to enforce the "one seat available out of two" policy which knowing the amount of people use it won't be really respected. And the amount of people in there after not seeing a lot of people for 2 months straight will probably freak my out for a week and then I'll get used to it.
I wish I could use our car but my fiancé needs it to go to work.

At least I won't be in the office full time, half of the week at home and the other at the office. Better than nothing  It's just having to deal with anxiety of being locked up, getting used to it and now feeling like going back to "normal" is so impossible. It triggers more anxiety to get out there than staying in for a lot of people. I'm sure it does also in the UK.

And to top it all, the French senate rejected the post-lockdown plan which was fine to begind with, and now it's causing useless confusion for everybody.

Judges, your scores please.

Kizzy: Clearly did say that some people "like" sitting around doing nothing for 80% pay, which strongly implies that those people are being somewhat lazy.

Marsh: Is arguing that Kizzy is wrong to question what he said about it and that it's pedantic, HOWEVER, Marsh did not say "You said they were lazy" or "you implied that they were lazy"... Marsh specifically said;

:omgno: that belief was proven to be FALSE!!!

I just can't call it at this stage. Let's come back later for a second look.

I’d have to side with Kizzy on this matter despite knowing diddlysquat about the matter in question ..

I find Marshy to be consistently argumentative and unpleasant.

I rest my case , m’lud .

Oh interesting to see how that works out...they need to tape off the seats at least I guess?

Apparently that's what is happening, a friend took the tube this morning and told me it was starting to be done this way with yellow tape all over them. So we'll see. Apparently it's the same in Paris too and other large cities. I suppose you'll get the same policy in the UK.

Seats near the driver on buses have been taped off, dont think it has happened on tubes yet but it needs to

Not sure what my post count has to do with my bed, but there you go. You will say anything to prolong this argument. ;)

The suggestion was that you must barely have time to do anything constructive given the amount of time you spend posting in here ...

You could end this dilemma by not nitpicking virtually every post I make .. even easier would be to stop following me around from thread to thread ..

He says without a hint of irony after bumping said thread PURPOSELY to engage me.

Take a long hard look at yourself, if you can stay vertical long enough.
