View Full Version : Question for vegans

I was randomly googling information about faux fur and leather and came across a vegan blog. They were asked if faux fur was vegan and this was their answer:
Wearing faux fur is glamourizing wearing the skin and hair of another animal, and that's pretty opposite to the whole core belief behind veganism. Even if it's faux fur, it represents a garment and an industry based on the skinning of animals.

Although I respect their beliefs I can still understand how this would come across as double standards to meat eaters. For example: Quorn meat. Food that is designed to look and taste like the real thing

What is your opinion on this?

Why is it double standards to like the taste of meat but dislike the practice of killing animals?

Im a vegetarian and always come across this question, people might like the taste of meat but do not want animals killed for it, so nothing wrong with a quorn sausage or chicken/fish fillet no animals killed but you still get that texture and taste as for the faux fur, its better is its fake but I dont like fur coats anyway fake or not, I think the only thing I have with faux fur on is a parker jacket and its on the hood ,well was I have taken it off.

Regarding fake fur it's like saying that anyone, vegan or not who disagrees with hunting wild cats is a hypocrite if they wear leopard print clothes, it's a ridiculous argument and its holding vegans to a higher standard than everyone else (I'm not vegan btw)

But that's not what the OP was questioning. They were questioning why... fake fur is promoting real fur and therefore the killing of animals, but fake meat isn't promoting real meat and therefore the killing of animals.

Nobody said vegans are vegan because they don't like the taste of meat.

It was probably just one ridiculous person taking their veganism too far. As far as I know, general veganism doesn't get up in arms about fake animal prints/furs.
