View Full Version : Does anyone here actually know someone who got seriously ill from Covid-19?

There are so many stories in the USA and UK of people dying from other causes but their death certificates saying Covid-19 as the cause of death. And there are so many videos of people filming their own hospitals and it appears deserted. Every year hundreds of thousands die from the flu but nobody seems to care. And it's even stranger how the government (in true 1984 style) turned on a dime and became okay with protesting as long as it had to do with racism.
It's my opinion that this was all a hoax and a scam. We destroyed our economies over nothing. It's been some time since I last checked these forums and I was wondering if anyone here knows someone (or knows someone who knows someone) who has gotten seriously ill from Covid-19.

Plenty of people I know have "recently" (Novemberish) had an unexplained and particularly nasty flu like illness, but since the Coronavirus was widely known about most of my nearest and dearest have been self isolating, and work's been off for unbearably long...
No-one I know has had confirmed Covid, but my county is apparently still a "hot spot".

I have lost 2 family members, Aunts.
Plus one close friend who had other serious issues but contracted this virus in hospital.
Then a friend who was a Nurse who contracted it while working caring for others with this detestable virus.
So yes.

so what do you suggest the numbers dying in New York for instance and being buried in mass grave died from?
The UK government has repeatedly asked people not to protest during the pandemic but to find other ways to protest?

It's not only the unnecessary loss of the loved ones but also the devastation of the lives of those left behind.
My Nurse friend had 2 young children.
I couldn't even go to their funerals.

People die of things all the time. In New York the actual number of people dying from all causes, including Covid-19, has not gone up. What has happened is people who died from the flu or pneumonia have plummeted, suggesting many deaths are being misdiagnosed as Covid deaths.

Yes two people that we previously worked for.
The guy worked at Heathrow airport went to a meeting and two people at meeting had it.
Came home and passed on to his elderly mother inlaw she died from it.
He got serious Ill was intensive care for a few weeks his organs started to shut down and his wife was told to expect the worst but he managed to recover.
Sorry for your losses Joey.
My mum was ill with it for about 11 days. 4-5 of them she spent bedridden. She said if it was any worse it would have been unbearable and she’s not surprised, in her opinion at 40, that so many elderly people die from it.

It is in the words of friends I have in the Nursing profession, the most awful and heartbreaking thing to witness that they've had to, the way it destroys you.
Thank you Cal and I'm really pleased to hear your Mum fought through it.
What a relief that must have been.
yes, I know people who had it confirmed, got seriously ill but survived. I get so annoyed with the groups claiming it's a hoax. no-one who has watched the hospital footage from around the world would suggest it was just "normal"

I was ill over Christmas with what I thought was a vicious cold that laid me out for the week, I'm convinced it was Covid on reflection tbh.
But yeah, I've known people who have had it. It's a real and present danger that's not being oversold or overhyped to be more dangerous than it actually is.

We live in a world where people treat lies like comfort blankets. They'll tell themselves that Covid is a hoax because the reality of it scares them. They prefer to be told a comfortable lie over an uncomfortable truth.

This is also the thing with this vile pestilence.
There are those who haven't a clue they've got it.
It also is infectious I believe 1 to 3 days before any symptoms appear anyway.
It's deadly.
It may well be, for the massive majority, the symptoms or attack from it won't be in any way life threatening.
Once it gets to a weaker source however, re elderly or those with other health issues, or immune system issues.
Then it doesn't bear thinking about.

Personally, no, however I know a handful of hospital doctors, several ICU nurses, and my dad's wife is a community ANP who works with the elderly and has had to sign countless death certificates since March. It obviously is real.
However, it's a bit of both. There have been plenty of genuine Covid deaths. But yes there have also been deaths of other respiratory causes (flu, bacterial lung infections, non-covid-related pneumonia) that have been assumed to be Covid but are not. That's simply because, if you can't be totally sure, it's better to over-inflate than under-estimate.

I would say though, all the deaths I've heard about directly have been in the over-65's category. Younger people dying of Covid does happen, but it's (in my opinion) significantly less common than the press often makes out.

All thru April and most of May roughly three out of five had the cause of death as Covid 19. Its definitely real.

46 year old hospital porter that worked with a good friend died.
We are pretty sure our daughter had it, she went to the docs in February, had blood tests for whooping cough then they lost the sample.
Confirmed cases were found at the surgery and they had to shut down.
She has been really ill for months, just getting back on her feet this past few weeks but still gets breathless at little exertion.
Very frightening times for all of us.

OverblownI think the opposite is true. I'm reasonably sure there are many in care homes that arent being recorded. Many registrars have only just started producing death certificates after lockdown
i don't think 50k additional deaths in 6 weeks could be considered overblown. It's also a particularly grim way to go

- My uncle died from it
- Very distant relative died from it who I didn't know at all but heard about
- My dad had it pretty bad but he recovered and is doing well
- One of my best friends had it
- Other friend's mom had it
- My sister checked afterwards for antibodies & was told she had it
- ~5-10 others who I've heard have it that family & friends know, a few that died
- I maybe/prob had it too as I had symptoms around the same time as everyone else but I never did check then or now
Very real & dangerous... and actually feels toooooo widespread in NJ/my area (and NY ofc) but maybe it's a location-to-location thing. I know many areas around the states/world are mostly fine

i don't think 50k additional deaths in 6 weeks could be considered overblown. It's also a particularly grim way to goTo be fair, there are worse ways, most of the deaths are under sedation so you wouldn't even know it was happening. Also (I suppose to add to the grim) respiratory failure in some form has always been a common cause of death in the very elderly.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I had it in February too. It was really horrible to deal with feeling nauseous all the time so much that it was really difficult to sleep, feeling dizzy, fever and headaches. I only had it for 3-4 days but I couldn't move from the bed and I've never had anything so bad before. Definitely see how/why it effects older people so much too

I was “unwell” for a week in mid-February iirc..
I couldn’t pinpoint what it was but I thought it was just a random bug or something I’d eaten. All I can explain it as was like the feeling you get when you’re “coming down with something” but never actually getting to the result if that makes sense? Hot/cold sensations, shivery and a slightly scratchy throat that would usually worsen at night. No cough, no typical “fever” or anything like that. Also still had my appetite which is the first to usually go if I am unwell.
Weird thing though, I lost my sense of taste/smell for three days and thought it was the strangest sensation. Just as if food was a texture In your mouth. Was intentionally trying pungent foods to see if I could taste them (Ginger Biscuits for example) but nothing at all happened.
Back then I/we didn’t know it was a Covid symptom. I do now of course... Thankfully I didn’t go ANYWHERE that week so if it was this horrible virus I didn’t pass it on (hopefully).
Toy Soldier
14-06-2020, 12:45 AM
I get full loss of smell and taste every time I get a cold so I'd never be able to tell from that symptom. It is a horrible thing though. It seems like such a minor symptom or like you'd barely notice but loss of sense of smell, I find, is REALLY disorientating. I guess humans must rely on it more than we think we do? The best way I can describe it is that the world feels sort of flat and two-dimensional.

I didn't actually read the OP before but jfc.
Anyone who has lived through this year and is trying to deny the reality of things are beyond help. You're not interested in facts, you want to be comforted by a nice lie. Tell the hundreds of thousands of people that have died that it's a hoax, go yell at the loved ones they laughed behind that their grief is a hoax.
People are dying, it's honestly gross how many Americans are basically brainwashed into thinking that the economy outweighs the value of human life, these same people who value the economy over life are the same people who will screech All Lives Matter despite being willing to sacrifice the elderly for a ****ing haircut a few weeks back.

I had a full on keyboard warrior argument with a few Americans a couple of days ago who were insisting blue-in-the-face that wearing a mask and hand hygiene is enough to flatten the Covid curve, and denying the internationally established fact that banning mass gatherings and 2m social distancing has been the turning point in every single country that has reversed the trend. They're being told things can go on as normal and Covid will soon be gone so long as they wear a mask and wash their hands, and they believe it .

I'm still relatively sure my wife had it towards the start of lockdown, it was the worst cough I've ever heard and it went on forever, and (although she doesn't think it did) I'm pretty sure it began with a mild fever for 24-48h. My youngest also had a brief fever and mild cough - not an abnormal cough that I'd usually have thought anything of, but it lingered for 4+ weeks. I also went through a phase of "odd" breathlessness where I'd be just stood making dinner or something and suddenly feel like I'd been out running (out of breath, heart rate up) and I did have a very minor cough for at most two days. Again not something I'd usually think anything of. Only my wife's cough seemed abnormally severe.
She could probably get antibody testing (as an NHS professional) but is it weird that I'd be a bit "disappointed" if it turns out that wasn't it?

As long as the economy is unbothered, the government don't care about sacrificing the worker bees and the worker bees prefer comfort over facts. Over a hundred thousand people have died in the US alone and you've got the gullible believing it's a hoax.
Honestly, the way things are going in the US, hundreds of thousands more will die, especially considering that even when the vaccine is created, you'll have the pro-disease people choosing not to take it because they think autism is contagious.

I am sorry for those people who have lost loved ones or are in hospital .Personally I don't know of anyone round here who has had it , or has died from it. We have been very lucky so far.
2 years ago I came back from a cruise ,of the far east, with the worst chest infection I have ever had. My temp went up alarmingly and I had trouble breathing. I was admitted to hospital (the one where I had been a night sister) and put on oxygen and an antibiotic drip. The diagnosis was chest infection. It took me a while to bounce back from it. I was 68 so didn't expect to recover as quickly as a younger person and accepted the fact that I had lost my sense of smell and taste as just one of those things. The sense of smell didn't come back until early this year. I'm hoping one day, to get an antibody test because I can't help wondering if it was covid-19. Because my husband is shielding, I have had the test for the virus which is negative thank goodness but I would love to see if I have any antibodies

That's one of the problems with this vile virus Kazanne.
We may well have known or come across someone who has it, yet we not know that or in fact them not really too.
Apparently, even before the symptoms, for 1 to 3 days before symptoms, it's believed it can be passed on even then.
Obviously anyone who has it can as well, whether they know they have it or not.
It's why it's so dangerous to those with health conditions or who are elderly too.
Friends and Cousins I have in the medical profession have been reduced to tears and even fear, seeing how it ravages a person.
I'm glad somewhere is seemingly not affected or at least, too badly from it, and pleased you have kept safe too.
