i mean now with this hot weather, my parents want to either leave a window or backdoor downstairs open at night, but of course in terms of burglaries what i see on the news, and crimewatch here

idk what is safer

and leaving everything closed downstairs makes the heat stay inside

so i need some advice about this :wavey:

I’d never leave a flamin’ door open at night .. that’s an invitation to opportunist thief , cats or foxes !!

Neither is safer unfortunately. If you have to leave something, I would say the smallest window although my parents left an upstairs bathroom window open that was tiny.......and they still got burgled. There were a gang going round who used a child to climb through small windows and then let the other people in through the doors. There were footprints on the toilet that were consistent of a child aged under 10

I always leave windows open at night, would have thought it would be fine to

A door is a definite no though

one sleeps downstairs, my dad, also now mostly because of a injury (which also prevents him from going to work)

maybe the window then, small gap just enough for some fresh air to come in at night

Are they intending to go off for tapas and wine down the street?

Really all depends where you live. All my upstairs windows are left open overnight, and a couple small windows downstairs. The crime rate is about country average here, but people aren't burgling houses in my area lol (they would also need to mess around with a ladder too, thus being heard), they're burgling the houses actually worth burgling.

Or get a fan, or invest in a standalone air con unit....

thx for advice, but tbh i was discussing a bit with my mom again too, and maybe just a fan on mode 2 rather than mode 1 could still be safest

as for now myself, sorry climate but i have my airco on right now,

also just a few days of heat anyway, by the weekend we get some (thunder) storms again what gives some cooler weather, some rain either

It would be silly to leave a window vopen if you don't have a big dog. Burgulars are opportunists after all.

Search this on Amazon it's 14 quid, well reviewed and blows cooled air

It was a good few years ago but the police were aware of them using a child to get through small windows. They did loads of houses in the area that way.

Our windows lock open, and they're open all year. Wouldn't leave a door open though.

If someone gets in my dog has permission to eat them.

Buy a fan.

Have you tried buying a neon flashing sign with 2 fingers pointing at the house, and "free stuff inside" displayed?

my dad said wanting to leave the door open

he dislikes the fan because it gives him a sore throat, sore eyes :umm2:

Much better to wake to an empty house.

Has he tried not pointing the fan at his face?

I was always taught to never leave the backdoor or downstairs windows open of a night time regardless of how hot it is. Someone tried to burgle our shed in the back garden once but luckily they didn’t manage to get away with anything .

We have our upstairs bedroom windows open of a night time but even then they have those special lock things on them so you can’t fully open them from the outside.
