You get told that your noon meeting has been moved forward by two hours
What time is the meeting at now?

And yet, when the clocks go forward at 2am, you change them to 3am. :omgno:

False. Whether or not it's a grammatical or technical linguistic error, the correct answer is the one that's in common usage (because it's a very commonly used and understood terminology). Thus, moving a meeting forward means making it earlier.
What do you think "pushed back" means Smithy
Right well I’m sorry to inform you, you’re all wrongWhat's the answer then?

If you push something back, it’s going further away, if you bring something forward, it comes closer

In that case the time on the clock is going forward. In this thread's case it is the meeting that is going forward.

Yep. The meeting is being moved forward, not the clock/time.

Yep. The meeting is being moved forward, not the clock/time.Disagree, I've had meetings move forward and they've been in earlier rather than later

Disagree, I've had meetings move forward and they've been in earlier rather than later
Very confusing.
I would say later or earlier.
Now my head needs unscrambling again.😂

Also, comparing it to changing the clocks isn't like for like. When you change the clocks either forward or back for daylight saving you're either changing them back in time (1am becomes 12am again or 12am jumps forward in time to become 1am) whereas in the meeting context you can't say you're moving a meeting back in time both forward and back happen in the future

Fore as in goes before ,so earlier
...when a clock goes forward, it’s moved on in time by an hour usually for our time zone...when a meeting is moved forwards, it’s essentially brought forward ...so to an earlier time of 10am...

Having worked in both large corporate retail and small social enterprise;
Everyone who is saying 2pm to be "technically correct" in linguistic terms is going to miss their 10am meeting .

I would say ‘bring forward’ in that instance, but hell who arranges a meeting without confirming the time :hmph:

...it was a boring/pointless meeting anyway tbh...an hour of life I’ll never get back...next time I’m going to pretend I thought it was 2pm and just not attend...

Anyway since I know you all love to hear me harping on; here's why I don't think it's evern linguistically incorrect.
The idea that "moving it forward" must mean making it later is based on the assumption that one is talking about the way that the object ("the meeting") moves in a flow of time. Time progresses, thus, moving forward means "being later" in a linear progression.
However, if one isn't talking about the "flow" of time at all, but rather considering time/space to be allegorical and a fixed point in time to be a literal physical object, that changes things. Imagine time as a physical space - let's say a concert. Most people are centred upon themselves - "me" - as the point of reference, Object A, the performer on stage. Object B - "the meeting" - is out there somewhere in the crowd. When we say "Can Bob in row F come forward!" we mean, approach the stage.
Then when we say "bring the meeting forward" - we mean "bring object B closer to me, object A"... close the time gap between the fixed point "now" and the variable point "when the meeting is".
I assume this is all totally clear now and you are welcome.

The real post-Covid answer is "The zoom call is going to start at 9:30 and you'll still be on it, silently hoping for death, at ten past three".
The meeting has no time. There is only meeting :bawling:.

It's called Zoom LT, and they. never. end. I have literally had a meeting go from 9 - 12 with our English counterparts, a separate mini-meeting for an hour with the Scottish team, another hour from 3 to 4 and then a request for everyone to come back on for a quiz at 7pm. It's a torture device.
And then there's Microsoft Teams where people just "call up for a little chat". Send me an email!! STOP this madness!!

YES Cherie! Everyone I work with has always been office based, I've been working from home 3/4 (or more) of the time since I started. I liked popping in for an office day here and there to see faces and have a giggle but was mostly peaceful at home, drinking coffee and arguing on TiBB. No one ever called me. They messaged me on Teams or popped me an e-mail. I had a 20 minute video call with the CEO on a Monday morning.
Then ... Lockdown happened.
All of those people who were happily being social in the offices had to start working from home like I always have.
And they won't stop INTERACTING with me! Reeeee! Leave me alone! We go round the group on Zoom WEEKLY and everyone talks about how they're coping and their feelings, it's a nightmare. They even sent round a form for everyone to fill in to make sure we have all the equipment we need and proper chairs :joker:. No one cared before!

There was one time they got us to use a stuffed animal as a "talking stick".
Don't get me wrong, I'm still very grateful to be out of heartless corporate retail where I was a number (literally identified by employee number :umm2: ) and into a small close-knit team but...
...there's a line. There has to be a line :(

I wouldn't think it's been delayed without the word "back" in there somewhere.
