Any plans this very strange year?
I just booked a trip at the start of August in Ireland, looking forward to getting away but I think I'll avoid leaving the country this year

Would you have to drive all the way through France then? That's a fair drive, we did it one time, took around 16 hours I think

..yeah, it was bad over there...he had just moved to a new apartment so felt quite isolated because he didn’t know anyone and obviously the chance to get to know people wasn’t there...I know they were quarantined anyway but, it’s still an unfamiliar surrounding...but he coped brilliantly....he’s amazing...he had some down times but he always pulled himself up quite quickly and has just gone back to work at the office a few weeks ago...he’s starting to socialise a little at weekends but still not that much...he has lots of money in his bank account now though in not being able to do stuff......

I want to go home at some point to see my family, but then I’d have to do a 14 day self isolation upon return which just isn’t realistic :/

..yeah it does and there have been quite a few family things that we’ve had to put on hold and couldn’t celebrate...I have to say that I doubt I’ll be socially distancing from him either when I see him, it’ll just be an instinct thing.....

Is that all it is? That's brilliant. We got the ferry over a few years back and decided not to bother booking a hotel, thought we'd just pull into a town when we got tired and find somewhere.........we were like Mary and Joseph trying to find a place to stay, there was some big swimming tournament on and all the hotels were full  Found something eventually though a few towns on

Luckily had a lil few days vacation trip to Atlantic City at the beginning of the year (AC = decent vacation spot in NJ esp for a gambler :hehe:) because other than that I think most likely no other vacations for me in 2020 </3
People trying to rush abroad are really odd. We have a perfectly good country here with so many things to do.
Now that we're free to go anywhere I've booked most of my weekends meeting up with friends at bars, parks or at their house. It doesn't exactly compare to an all-inclusive in Turkey but anyone who still has overseas holidays as a priority considering the current global situation is clearly detached from the seriousness of it.
ETA: Just read the other posts in here and don't want to come across as insensitive. I am referring to the people who are rushing away on holidays just for the sake of it; not to see families/kids in those countries, etc.

We were supposed to go to Iceland (flights booked in February etc) before getting married, but we're going to Brittany in France instead, stay in a nice beach house on the northern coast, hike in nature and chill....if we're not back in lockdown in September :(
We wanted to go to Jersey and Guernsey while we are up there, but we are limiting overseas travels.

..I have to say that the thought of getting on/being on the plane holds quite a few anxieties, even though I’ve worked all the way through and had some contact with ‘high risk‘ people...it’s the enclosed space of the aircraft cabin and I’m not the best flier anyway...so I might need therapy when I get it booked to overcome those anxieties...

Yes, it was already planned for October because we wanted a fall wedding! I know so many people wanted to get married in 2020 but it's all been delayed until next year or this winter. I understand the frustration because planning a wedding is nothing but easy  At least we don't have to worry about delaying...unless a second wave is preventing us from it!

Again, I don't need you to tell me where I am allowed to have an opinion and where I am not. All I had said was that I find it odd that people are rushing to book flights because they just "need to get away". We have a perfectly good country here with an economy that could do with our help.
I made my thoughts clear enough in my initial post and you've just decided to have a pop. Our economy may need help but so do other countries since most rely on tourism to keep their businesses running.

Not at all, lol, it was an opinion on your opinion
the world needs to get back to as near normal as it can as quickly as it can and that includes going on holiday. Many people are desperate to get away after being shut inside for so long.
Our economy may need help but so do other countries since most rely on tourism to keep their businesses running.
I understand this but that is precisely why it's important that people from all countries are investing in their own countries where they can.
On the flip side I would also hate to see that lots of people from other countries come holidaying in the UK this summer because they should also be staycationing in order to A) invest in their own country's economy and B) so that travel and tourism don't become catalysts for another surge in cases.

But is that enough to save most businesses especially hotels? I do see your point and maybe people shouldn't be rushing but tbh I've been hearing that some hotels are not allowing people in pools or they have took away most sun beds and spaced them out and cabin crew are cleaning the plane often. Resorts and airports don't actually seem that busy and packed as some are too scared to go and the masks are putting people off. (they seem more stricter with masks than UK)
The travel economy also needs help so it’s a fine balance that needs to be struck
Oh this too, they are one of the most at risk i think. I would hate to see anymore people here and diff countries lose their jobs because of corona.
