View Full Version : Hundreds of Mouth Breathers march in London protesting Masks

Hundreds of activists have descended on Hyde Park in central London to protest the wearing of face coverings.

Demonstrators raised signs reading 'I will be not be masked, tested, tracked' and 'no mask' as they gathered for the Keep Britain Free march from 1pm.

One man wore a plague doctor costume, another had a mask with the front ripped out and one donned a vest saying: 'Save human rights. No to 5G. No to vaccinations.'

The protest was to counter the government announcement that masks must be worn in shops from July 24, which organisers branded a 'liberty-sapping regulation'.

The march, which started in Speaker's Corner and moved to Marble Arch, also looked to repel 'the erosion of freedoms in the UK' brought in during lockdown.

It comes as the UK government toughened its stance on the wearing of face coverings in public places.

Passengers have to use them on public transport and they will be made compulsory in shops and supermarkets in England from July 24.

Rule breakers will be hit with a £100 which can be reduced to £50 if paid within a fortnight.

Oh well, if they end up on their deathbed it’s their own fault

It's grim that the utter nonsense that has allowed America's situation to fester is taking root here.

Morons every single one of them. People who believe in 5G conspiracy theories, are anti-vax or anti-mask shouldn't be allowed out without adult supervision. Utter children.

[They say they are not "anti-masks" but "pro-choice",
and their choice is not to wear a mask.
Come Friday, it will be mandatory to wear
a face mask or covering in shops and
supermarkets in England as part of public health
policy to tackle Covid-19.
Those who do not could be fined up to £100.]

It’s a joke really making it compulsory to wear a mask four months into a pandemic.

What about all the dicks that went to the pub.

the issue comes from the fact that early on science was telling us that masks didn't stop us catching the virus so it sent out the wrong message, but the priority at the time was to not catch the virus so it was correct. Add to this, the fact that we had a PPE shortage and the government wanted to discourage any talk of masks being important to our health.

Fast forward to now and the facts remain the same, a mask wont stop you getting the virus, but it will stop you spreading it. We are just at a different stage in the lifecycle of dealing with the virus, so the emphasis has changed. However, some less intelligent people don't understand that advice can evolve, so they stick with the original directive

That's what we are seeing happening now

Its a pointless exercise because half of the shoppers have already been wearing masks.

the masks are for your own safety, but apparently these people don't care about safety from the virus then if they are against the masks

as for the vaccine, i am not too keen on that either, same goes for my mom also not quite sure what to do when that is ready

I thought the masks protect others from your germs ... apparently offers minimal protection to the wearer - in fact it supposedly lets you drop your guard so can be seen as detrimental.

it certainly applies to any old face covering. I have medical grade face masks that might provide a bit of protection, but i wouldn't bet on it

So basically they lied and now they are not lying, masks are beneficial and do aid in reducing the spread by using some form of face covering as a precautionary measure.

All I see at this protest are selfish people, they themselves may be willing to risk infection but the vulnerable also need to shop in a sense this is just a civic duty for them.

It should have been implemented at the start imo.

There are still expert scientists and bacteriologists saying that they’re not convinced about the effectiveness of masks though ...

It would be strange if it's bacteriologists, as Covid has nothing to do with bacteria.

But anyway - it's not conflicting information, misinformation or lying. There hadn't been studies into whether or not masks were effective in blocking Covid spread and there were varying hypotheses on whether it would help, do nothing, or make matters worse. We're now 4 months into this pandemic, people have been doing the research, and it has been convincingly proven that wearing masks makes a significant difference in community transmission. There's not much more to it than that. The information hasn't "changed" - it just wasn't available before.

do you not think though that if masks had been in plentiful supply right from the start that the government would have recommended them then? Any protection is better than nothing. I think their initial guidance was driven by the lack of supply

France are only bringing in compulsory face mask wearing from today,

People in France will be compelled to wear face-masks in closed public spaces from Monday, a measure to stem the coronavirus transmission in the country.

It was revealed by the country's Health Directorate - Direction générale de la Santé, also knows as DGS - to news agency AFP on Sunday.

Venues concerned include meeting and performance halls, cinemas, restaurants, hotels, game rooms, educational centres, holiday centres, libraries, places of worship, indoor sports venues, museums, stations and airports.

"Stores, shopping centres, administrations, banks and covered markets" have also been added to the list, the DGS said, while masks remain mandatory on public transport too.

I think their initial guidance was driven by the lack of supplyYou don't need a "proper" mask though, and supply will meet demand with home-made ones... Either people making them locally or the 10 million etsy/ebay shops that have sprung up selling them. It's good business if you have a sewing machine and are quick at it, you can make one for about 50p and sell it for £3. More if you're skilled enough to make "above average quality" ones/quirky stylish ones.

It was lying...

Are you seriously trying to inform people that the effectiveness of masks has only just now been studied as to how they aid in reducing the spread of viruses spread by droplet's?

You must think everyone is thick or something :/ either that or you are hella gullible.
