Ok, so i speedrun GTA 3 on PS4. It's night and day compared to how you can glitch on PC, but i have some pretty decent times (WR in all but one Console GTA 3 speedrunning category)

Speedrunning is super addictive, takes a lot of skill and practice, but i love it.

So yeah, are you a Trophy hunter? Do you speedrun? Ever beat a near impossible game to beat?

Post your achievements here.

Not into speedruns.

That's fair, not for everyone, hence why it's 'gaming achievements' so can be anything? Mine just happens to be speedrunning.

I have a ton of respect for Trophy Hunters.

I speedrun splinter cell, but that's the only one, and back on the ps3. Had a world record for a few weeks after release, then this Russian just dominated the whole leaderboard with insane times and scores. Still load it up once in a while to replay some missions.

Unfortunately not as I don't have a capture card. I have the game on the current gen xbox though (through backwards compatibility), so I'll load it up over the next couple of weeks and record a few missions.

GTA 3 seems like a weird game to speedrun, how did you get into it?

Ah ok cool.

I mean the PS2 Trilogy to speedrun is super popular, granted VC and SA are more popular to run, but plenty run GTA 3 too (most on PC, granted).

There's a fairly big community for it. I just happened to prefer to run as i played it a lot as a kid. Will probably start to learn VC and then SA too.

I didn't even finish 3, I don't think. I was too into football and fighting games. I played the crap out of VC and SA though. You got any vids?

I was super into football games, i preferred Pro Evo over FIFA back in the mid 00's. Managing games, Tiger Woods, Gran Turismo etc etc.

3 is pretty hard casually, but it shaped what the GTA franchise become. It has a special place in my heart anyway.

Yeah i have a few.

I'm watching the first one. How do you know you're getting a WR as it starts? My SC missions take around 5ish mins to complete in speedruns. Concentrating for an hour and half like that is impressive.

I played through Vagrant Story 3 times and I think I got a 100% map reveal rate, but I did not get all of the weapons.

I would have to check my PS1 memory cards though as I think my save files are still there.

I think I did the Short Tournament on those games that it was available.

I think finishing the Driver 2 story mode when I was 10 was an achievement . That game had some tough ****ing missions made even worse by the terrible AI.

Out of curiosity Swan (and sorry to sound proper dumb) but when you speed run GTA3 is it 100% completion you go for or just the main storyline missions? GTA3 would probably be the easiest for me to speed run out of all the PS2 GTA games I think. I only remember one or two missions being fairly difficult (I think one was called ‘Espresso 2 Go’ or something like that).

You don't sound proper dumb :) Basically no, 100% is it's own category (which i've yet to route for yet, but it'll happen soon, hoping for around a 9/10 hour run, RNG will play a huge part in that), i've done every category BUT 100%. So like any% will be the fastest because i dupe 4 missions (meaning you set on om0 and duplicate the mission and tricking the script, and pass with a death/bust), and any% is just that, complete the game as fast as you can, however you like, without cheating.

All missions, so all 73 missions is it's own category, that one i have a 3:45:11 time in, so yes quite a big difference from any% which is 1:18:56.

GTA 3 is a decent game to speedrun, little things will annoy you more than not, and RNG can really make or brake a run. As for the missions, yeah Espresso 2 Go is notorious with casual playthroughs because you have to get near the stalls for the blips to appear on the map, and it's across all 3 islands, so if you don;t know the map well then yeah it's very tricky. I've seen people stuck on this mission for hours (obviously in speedruns we know the best route, and it's fairly straightforward  )

Ah ok so you’ve done speed runs on this game a fair few times then I take it? The hidden packages part is what I’d probably find the most annoying but I suppose if you’ve learned and memorised all the locations for them it can be fairly easy. That’s some impressive times btw, I doubt I could finish the game that quickly .

I think as well, one of the harder things I found with this game is that as you progress through it, you become more hostile to gangs which can be a pain, especially in the Mafia turf on Portland because they walk around with shotguns that can blow up your car with 2 hits near enough. Speedrunning this game is probably so much fun tho, I’d literally have MSX FM playing throughout the whole thing to make me play faster  (Chatterbox FM was another great station from that game, had me in hysterics listening to it ).

I've platinum'd a few PS4 games/PC games on Steam. It wasn't something I used to be into, my first was Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 then I finished up Arkham Knight on PC (because it was sat at something like 97%). I've done quite a few games since then.

The only game I can speed run is Resi 4 (original GameCube version) and I can also challenge speed run it (handgun only, no upgrades allowed, knife only, etc). That's due to me and one of my Uni housemates moving into our house 3 months earlier than everyone else (from the start of summer, everyone else moved in when classes started in late September) and all we had was a GameCube with one controller and a telly. We didn't even have furniture, other than beds. So we sat cross legged in the empty living room with the TV on the floor playing Resi 4 for 3 months straight.

Good times honestly.

Same, Exoddus took a while for me though cause I struggled finding all the secret areas and didn’t realise there was a really obvious clue as to where they all were . I liked that all the Mudokons had emotions (if that makes sense) and you had to do certain things (apologising to the angry ones) or taking extra care (leading the blind ones) when rescuing them. It was just a cool little feature that made that game a little better to go back to compared to Oddysee but that was still a great game nonetheless.

My only ‘gaming achievement’ was being headhunted as a sniper
Many years ago whilst playing online COD2 ... .. sniping night after night after night I was invited to join a rather highly rated online American COD2 clan as they needed a decent sniper ..

It all went rather well for quite some time despite me having to spend a couple hours each night between 1am and 4am and holding down a full time job :)

I went downstairs after couple of hours of competitive sniping to try and chill out - as I couldn’t get to sleep ..

I tried watching a bit of telly but my gaze drifted to the woodland scene print hanging on our lounge wall to the side of the television and I was still ‘seeing’ little soldiers running around the countryside in and out of the woodland !!

Sometimes 5, 6 hour sessions... And I swear... Sometimes we'd play until about 10pm then head out to the union and it felt like there were still little "names" floating above people's heads :umm2:.
