I feel like the marketing of a suprise album only really works if there’s been 2+ years since the last release making it largely desired for. It’s not been a year since her last I believe? Probably would have been better to announce it in advance for pre-orders as it’s not been long enough for a surprise release

Marsh.
23-07-2020, 01:21 PM
I don't think she cares. It wasn't originally planned. Sounds like a quarantine project she just wants to release.

Lover had it's moments but it was too filler heavy and Reputation was awful. I'll give it a listen but I don't suspect I'll be too keen on it.

Morgan.
23-07-2020, 01:28 PM
Judging by the featured artists, writers, producers etc it seems she’s heading for an indie pop/rock vibe with many speculating a Hozier-style sound.

Yes, that song performed well, but Ariana was only on one song. I can guarantee you nobody bought the album for the ariana song. Stupid Love was still a Top 5 hit and is silver certified (the same certification as Rain on Me so your point is .....?) as well has being her first UK top 5 since Born This Way (excluding ASIB tracks) so your point really is invalid because like it or not this era has been huge for her and secured her back into the mainstream, particularly for the UK.

I didn’t even talk about Lady Gaga, I was talking about Taylor Swift and her marketing of the album, and also stating she isn’t following lead of others by using featuring artists on albums (aka not using Ariana Grande to sell albums, which many people seem to be doing at the moment). Folklore has had the biggest ever Spotify debut by a female artist ever. She achieved it by over 10M streams. It is also not obviously the biggest ever Spotify release of 2020 females, dethroning Chromatica by almost doubling it.

Folklore - 80M
Chromatica - 45M

Taylor swift has sold 1.3million copies of folklore in her first 24 hours, breaking the worldwide global record from herself. This is despite physical copies not even being in stores. She sold more in 1 day digitally than leading artists do in a week/ 2 weeks in total.

She has outsold Chromatica in a day amongst other leading artists albums

''jealous'' lmao i am not jealous at this predictable bitch

only thing what i liked was 1989, but that was before she got blinded by all the money, success coming from mainstream generic *****

folklore is mainstream generic lifeless emotionless trash

my own opinion and it isn't out of jealousy

Some more bundles and multiple versions trying to take #1 off an organic hit in Rockstar :idc:

1287963786842968065

Pretty much shows that the reason this came out suddenly wasn’t because it was some spontaneous Self Isolation project, but because the team had to hurry and release before the billboard rules changed soon. Hey. Get your coins I guess. Hopefully Rockstar stays strong where it deserves though.

Just listened to this through and Betty is a major tune. August also very good

There's a lot of good stuff on the album but I do think it's overly long and some of the songs are quite samey. Also all very serious and mellow, nothing upbeat in there really despite the length

It’s weird how obsessed you are with chromatica that you’d still be reading through reviews of it almost 3 months after its release. I think maybe you should get a life

it does grow slightly on me, but that's maybe now more because i ain't expecting any bops anymore

most of the songs do have the same cuteness, sweet vibes what i liked on 1989 ''Wildest Dreams'' one of my fave songs of that album

you can say ''told you so Nicky has done a u-turn'' but no i just do not hate it anymore, and i never hated Taylor tbh, i mean i can't since i do like her early years + 1989

Regardless of the singles mix the album sells, sells more than anyone’s faves have this year

I mean when you call her irrelevant also and she outsells your faves 2:1 and get bitter about it it’s a bit silly

Taylor’s albums always sell well. I never said they don’t. It’s not really hard to do as a Pop Star With a big obsessive fanbase signed to and fully supported by Universal. Her last album still
Had no hits and even the Grammys couldn’t nominate her, never mind gift her another award.

If you so obsessed with numbers though, I Still can’t tell you the last hit she had though and that’s why her team are going all out to try and get one now before the rule changes, that’s the facts

Not everyone can get organic hits though...

Look What You Made Me Do (2017) - #1 US multiple weeks, #1 UK multiple weeks
Gorgeous (2018) - US #13, UK #15
Me (2019) - US #2, UK #2
You need to calm down (2019) - charted #3 US, #5 UK
Lover (2019) - chatted #10 US, #14 UK

I don’t know what you class as hits but those were all top 15 in both US and U.K.?

She has always been an albums artist (which is far more important than singles, promoting singles often don’t even make the label money it’s usually a cost to plug the album.. Taylor can plug the album without the cost of even needing to promote singles)

I mean I love the Weeknd but he will never have the career close to Taylor, I mean she is one of the biggest sellling acts of all time, her name is going to be up there with The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Madonna in terms of tales in 5 years time. She’s already 200M+ right now she’s Already 4/5 of the way there, and is the second best selling act of the past 30 years. Saying someone as huge as Taylor Swift is not able to get hits is a little off the mark imo. Folklore wasn’t made to create hits either, it’s a quarantine album project with her going indie

All those numbers show me is a gradual decline considering she used to run this ****.

You don’t really believe it’s a quarantine album do you? It’s just an attempt to restore credibility and critical acclaim after her last album fell short in that regard and in terms of awards. Spontaneous Quarantine albums that are suddenly released aren’t released with 683838390 versions of Vinyls,Remixes, Merch and Dildo bundles ready to go just before Billboard changes the rules on them. :idc:

I’ll take my quote back. It’s an organic hit, I’ll give her that as it’s actually doing well enough on streaming. It’s not an Organic #1 though, which is what all these versions and remixes are blatantly trying to grab.
