I actually find 17’s cast to be suuuuuuuper strong and honestly Johnny Mac is probably one of the ones who objectively contributed the least when you factor in the feeds. The cast is stacked with a bunch of crazies who bounced off of each other well and you had a good split between the Six Shooters and the After Dark Crew. It also helped that the Six Shooters were the dominant alliance because every week they were in power there was crazy in-fighting between them so it really was the best possible scenario.

Meanwhile Johnny Mac just sat in the bathroom most times and soft-spokenly talked to Steve. His feeds highlight was when he was screaming so loud in the DR that Julia I think overheard him from the living room and got so scared that she tried to get him nominated for having a split personality, but even that is more of a twin moment than anything :joker:

I would be more inclined to agree if All-Stars was actually synonymous with good players or whatever, but as far as I’m concerned any criteria is thrown out the window when a winner like Lisa is left at the front door for early boots like Boogie and Kaysar, people who made the worst moves of all time like Marcellas and Howie, and Chicken George. That basically tells me that everything is out he window and All-Stars is all about who is likely to make ~good TV~, and Nicole and Paul have the reverse King Midas effect where everything they touch turns to complete **** so no thank you.

EDIT: For all the stuff about name recognition... I get it and I don’t. If there’s any reason for production to want Paul back, it’s not because he’s recognizable and will draw in viewers. It’s because he’s a performing monkey who will wear any dumb costume or read any contrived cue card line that Allison wants him to. Any name recognition he has would come with a large portion of viewers (from any sect of fandom, really) rolling their eyes and moaning and groaning about the fact that he’s coming back on their TVs again. Threepeating over the course of five seasons is literal overkill.

...because it’s (mostly) memorable people who make up All Stars casts for reality shows? From CBS’ description of the season:

And his gameplay is still irrelevant to this discussion but in BB18 he was on the block five times, saved himself from eviction three of those times but then took the wrong person to final two, else he wins the season. That’s not “average” lol, in spite of his glaringly huge endgame flaws

Basically what you’re saying here is “I don’t like Paul and don’t want to see him again”, which I get and many others will agree, but that’s very different from saying he “shouldn’t” be on an All Stars season

I don't think an All Stars season is ever or should entirely be full of good players, or else it'd just be a summer of gamebots. A good cast is made up of the former, fun/entertaining (and indeed polarising) TV characters, fan favourites and maybe the odd person who deserves a second chance!

Boogie only made the cast because it's not All Stars without Dr Will, they had no choice. Kaysar was a fan favourite and Howie and Marcellas I'd put under the "TV characters" umbrella. I'm guessing Chicken George was only on for BB1 rep but I haven't seen so idk if he was the best choice :joker:

Like if I was going to make a comparison to illustrate my point, I couldn't stand Jase in BB5, and I was actually kind of annoyed I had to see him again for BB7, but I totally understood why they cast him. One of the most memorable houseguests from a previous season, the definition of a "marmite" character, but the kind of thing a TV exec is looking for (and then you add in Diane for a "rivalry")

well ****, where do you want to start? The BB17 cast was STELLAR. I mean I probably could've supported JMac if he were cast in a season like BB14 where almost everyone sucked, but he's overshadowed by soooo many good characters. Vanessa was a paranoid mess but also a highly capable strategist who kept everyone guessing until the very end, Liz and Julia were a fun double act and contributed to a fair amount of the seasons drama. I couldn't stand Austin at the time of watching but upon reflection he's actually hilarious and his dynamic with Liz and Vanessa changing almost weekly kept the season entertaining as hell.

The scrappy underdogs in James, Meg and Jackie were great, James being excellent comic relief and didn't convolute his strategy to the point of boredom, Jackie being a scrappy underdog once she started to piece together everything happening in the house and Meg being useless but also fun. Becky was refreshingly "basic" and didn't take any **** and was DONE with deals(TM). She also had one of the best reads of the whole house whilst having very questionable strategic motives. Shelli was an amazing antagonist who had zero awareness which makes for amazing early HoH weeks where she kept pissing everyone off until she became the house pariah and got voted out over VANESSA because of how annoying she was. :joker:

The pre-jury was also outstanding, Audrey was an absolute mess and was excellent value and her dynamic with Clay was hilarious and Clelli were probably the best self-entitled power couple we've had in years. Jason and Da'Vonne gave excellent confessionals and the latter also bought the drama in the early weeks.

I also love Kaysar and Ian, and can appreciate Da’Vonne, Cody (who I think is underrated as a player), Enzo and Memphis, the only one I actively dislike is Nicole F, which is great considering there were so many more I hated that we could’ve had. yes Jack, very poorly planned compared to in Germany, now with promi big brother all (celeb) contestants are properly screened/tested/quarantined before they enter the house, once in the house they are safe, but crew and any outsiders wear masks all the time, to prevent them carrying the virus over to any of housemates

which is also a reason why they don't announce a line up there until the day before launch show probably, or when filming starts (5th august) since if someone tests positive they need last minute ''replacement'' to fill the gap and that people don't notice it

I think they’ve just completely pushed it back and will do a live reveal on Premiere. Spoiler sites are now saying that the cast won’t even be finalised until Monday so they’ll either do a release on Tuesday or just wait until launch.

That cast is...a choice. I have mixed feelings about it.

Some people really have no place in AS like Christmas, Bayleigh, Cody, David, Kaysar and Memphis. I mean, they really scream "fillers" and tbh they were not that relevant or big names from their season. Sure some of the placed 2nd but like...they are forgettable?

It seems like Grodner made it easy for Tyler and Nicole F. I can't see Janelle or Daniele winning, probably not even going far though everyone wants them to go far. I just wish we had bigger names, or at least more that really made moves. But yeah, we have Christmas and David instead...yay...
