Like obviously she should be "allowed" to do what she wants with her hair, but if she was actively pretending to be something she isn't? Hmm

There's a Jew at my synagogue with ginger natural "afro" hair. Not a fabulous look... but it still counts.
And if she's pretending to be black with a blonde afro wig, surely the blonde could be seen as cultural appropriation? Or maybe it's all one way.

Never met a white African in my life.
African covers the indigenous people of the African continent, the natives.
You could of course have mixed race, but not white
White people from the Dutch and the Empire are not classed as Africans.
White South Africans or Afrikaner, white Zimbabweans etc.
They take the name of the country normally, not the continent.
It may have changed of late, but not to my knowledge.

Please stop it. I'm not stupid and neither are you, stop making me explain everything in an effort to make me look silly.
Blonde isn't a race. But there aren't many naturally blonde Africans. Are there. If wearing an afro wig is cultural appropriation, then so is bleaching and straightening your black afro hair.

C'mon Liv, you know how ridiculous your post was. You said the blond was cultural appropriation. I just quoted you with a comment, so if you've now realised that might have made you look a bit silly, then I fail to see why that's anything to do with me.
I made an error in the dawn butler thread the other day, and as soon as it was pointed out I owned it, and corrected it.

I think that claiming that white people wearing an afro is cultural appropriation, is equally as stupid as claiming that black girls who dye and straighten their hair is cultural appropriation. If you think that's silly, well, there's not much I can do about that.
Maybe just ignore me? Save me having to explain things to the nth degree.

I'm not really sure where I stand on the whole hairstyles being cultural appropriation topic however there is a reasoning there which wouldn't be there if you reverse it. Afros on black people were something that was viewed as ugly and as "bad hair" (especially on black women) in the not so distant past, it's probably a reason why some black women opted to straighten their hair or wear wigs etc, it's an issue white women generally don't face. It must be very annoying for a famous white woman to then come along and wear that style and have everyone say how amazing it is on her

I don't think anyone should be told how to dress or how to look. I've never considered the afro ugly. Except on the aforementioned ginger bloke from the synagogue.

I'm so tempted to ask if it's Mort from family guy...
Anyhoo unless he's a black Jew it's not a 'natural' afro by definition.
Blonde is not a culture, it's a colour.

This.
Having curly hair does not make it an "afro".

You said blond was cultural appropriation, that's all I responded to, so I have no idea what this trying to change what you said is all about.
You then threw in the little "maybe it only goes one way" and we all know what that means.

No, it's not Mort.
His hair is identical to a black afro.
I know blonde is not a culture and I've never said it was - anywhere. You're having the same problem comprehending this as Jesus.
I have no problem with people wearing whatever they want and wearing their hear however they want. But I fail to see how anyone could say, white women can only wear their hair like white women. But black women can wear it whatever way they like. And really, it's mostly white people who have a problem with this.

You're struggling with the concept of cultural appropriation. Having naturally very curly hair does not make it an 'afro', unless you happen to be 'afro'.
You raised blonde as a comparison, there can be no comparison because as you've acknowledged blonde is not a culture ergo no cultural appropriation is possible.
Not sure I agree it's mostly white people who have a problem with this, many now appreciate the issue and are attempting to understand the history behind it.

I know that, but their kids/grandkids are still white African people, and personally I don't get how having a hairstyle associated with black people makes you "want to be black?" It's almost like the Media can't accept people liking "black" cultural stuff.
