View Full Version : Woman charged with murder of 10yr old boy...
...there still isn’t a huge amount of information, obviously ...but I saw the story yesterday and it’s something I’ll follow, so...
A 40-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a 10-year-old boy, police said.
A woman walked into a police station in the early hours of Sunday to speak to officers and the boy was later found dead at a home in Cumberland Park, Acton, west London.
Olga Freeman will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Police believe they know the identity of the boy, who was known to Freeman, Scotland Yard said.
No-one else is being sought in connection with the death.
Reverend Nick Jones, 61, the rector of Acton, who lives in Cumberland Park, said on Sunday that news of the boy’s death was “shattering”.
He said: “I’m still shaking a bit, it’s hugely upsetting.”
Another neighbour said he was “in shock”.

What do you mean by that? like the boy was ill and in pain?

This is what I am wondering, he might have had some life limiting disability and she couldn't cope any more if he was in pain or that he could be taken by Covid at any point, I am just speculating, they are calling it murder, so if she killed him by accident, it would be manslaughter, the fact that she gave herself up as well, will have to wait and see I guess

Unless he was in severe and unresolvable pain then calling it a mercy killing is entirely wrong, in my opinion. I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt and think that perhaps they both were entirely lacking in support and has been failed by those around her/the care system and she's suffered an acute psychotic episode and done something, which would explain immediately turning herself in.
I say I'm "trying to" give the benefit of the doubt because as the parent of a disabled child this makes me feel really ****ing ill. "Mercy killing" someone with no capacity to speak for themself who is entirely reliant on you for support and advocacy is no excuse at all.

I would only ever really consider something a mercy killing if the person was in unresolvable pain tbh
...it’s really heartbreakingly sad that a parent could ever have those thoughts to end her child’s life and to possibly have felt ‘emotionally isolated’...

Lockdown has affected people alot, especially those shielding, not going to judge her actions until I know more
...the impact of these times on mental health has been a huge thing, is something I’ve personally found with many conversations with families, throughout...

I'm not judging her, if she suffered through lack of support and did this in mental distress then that is a tragedy. I just have issues with calling it "mercy" just because the child was disabled, for obvious reasons.

I didn't expect a big debate about the word mercy in all honesty maybe I used the wrong word, I was just explaining my thoughts on what MIGHT have happened, what word would you use?

Arista is on a roll today posting stories after they have already been posted.
Awful this....it keeps referring to the young boy as the photographers son but only says he is known to the woman charged with his murder.

My sympathy is drying up fast and being replaced with disgust and anger, but I can't be objective at all about this so I won't try to debate it.

It became too much for her.
Sadly she went too far.
...where does it say that she’s not Dylan’s genetic mother...I can’t see that in the articles...?..

oh that is grim
“The factual background to the allegation of murder is this defendant is alleged to have killed Dylan Freeman, who was her son and was 10 years old at the time of his death,” said Joel Smith, prosecuting.
“He was disabled and required 24-hour care, suffering from a litany of conditions.” The court heard Freeman had been “struggling to meet Dylan’s care needs for the last year, as he became older, bigger, and more difficult to care for” and the boy’s behaviour had recently become “especially challenging”.
Mr Smith added: “During lockdown, he was not able to attend school and the burden of care had fallen more heavily on the defendant, together with the assistance from her friend.”
Dylan was found dead in the master bedroom of the family home after his mother attended a police station. The court heard he died from “restriction of the airways”

Poor lad, I don't deny for a moment her life would've been easy and coronavirus will have seen her respite care stop for a while. But surely there was some other way?
What a hideous way to die :(
