I’d say films that made me cry the first time I watched them (because I don’t generally cry when I know what’s gonna happen)

Haichi
Inside Out
Up
Coco
Marley and Me
A Star is Born
Okja

 trying to think if there’s any others

Anything that is happy -

i would switch off any film with an animal as i know it would die as a cynical move by the director

Any film where something happens to a child that is bad

Yes, I forgot these two but only because I watched them once. Never again, it broke my heart. Though I might give it a watch again, years later I can see things differently.

War Horse for me every time I watch it.

Also really old films I watched with my Grandmother.
Many Bette Davis films.

The Old Maid
Dark Victory.

Actually another that gets me at times is one that was hammered by the critics.
It just affects me though for some reason.

Absolutely.
I love the black and white films.

I watched Yield To The Night, with Diana Dors a while back.
Most of it was in the prison.
It had quite an effect on me, I couldn't stop watching for a second.

I'm afraid, modern films don't grip me like those.

I think I was born way too much later than I should have been.:joker:

Oscar

Actually any film with an animal getting hurt or is in danger is my kryptonite. I can watch countless humans being mowed down with bullets or tortured, but a little dog loses his friends or something, and I'm out.

When I was a kid, there was a cinema in Oxford running lassie films on saturday afternoons. My sister took me one week, and I screamed the place down and had to leave.

Maquia is the latest, I didn't find it too emotional until the very end and then I was in bits. Grave of the Fireflies utterly ruined me for the rest of the day, The typical Ghibli films like When Marnie Was There and The Wind Rises ruined me as well.

Beyond that it's the typical stuff really, most Pixars get me although with Toy Story 3, the incinerator part didn't get me tbh, it was the ending where Andy plays with Woody for the final time and hands him over which completely turned me into a teary puddle.

War Horse especially the scene where Topthorn dies. I don’t think I’ve ever been so teary that much at a film before.

The only others I can think of that make me sad is:

Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone - The scene where he looks in the Mirror Of Erised and sees his parents. I always find that hard to watch especially once the music starts playing.

Iceage 1 - The part where they are walking through the cave and they see all the mammoth drawings on the wall and it shows what happened with Mannys previous family
