[Mercy Baguma: Minister refuses to discuss
woman found dead next to starving baby
amid anger over asylum system
People who knew the 34-year-old say
she was "always positive and always
put her family first, especially her son".]
[The Ugandan woman's death sparked
outrage and prompted Scotland's First
Minister Nicola Sturgeon to call for a
complete reform of the UK's
"deeply inhumane" asylum system.]
[She had claimed asylum in the UK
and was living in extreme poverty,
having reportedly lost her job at a restaurant.]
Tragic

This is a really tragic story, just shows how support services and other bodies have suffered during the pandemic.
...I saw this yesterday, it’s such the most heart wrenching of things, that lady being and feeling so alone with her baby and her baby there laying and crying with his mother’s lifeless body, it’s just so extraordinarily sad......
"I appreciate you want to talk about other matters, but they're not really matters for me," she said....
...’matters’ like this are ‘matters’ for everyone because they’re ‘matters’ of humankind...disregarded in life, now disregarded in death...

Shame on white scotlandNeither the asylum system nor the universal credit benefits system are devolved to Scotland - they are firmly in the hands of Westminster. The latter I believe is Brigg worked on transitioning to Scotland, but the asylum process is unlikely to ever be anything but Westminster-based.

This is a horrendous story, I wonder where her case worker wentThings like this have gone to absolute **** because of Covid. One example of the thousands of Covid deaths that have nothing to do with the virus, I think.

Really tragic.

...the thing is though, COVID might not be the direct cause...but if COVID did have a bearing as you’ve said...?...then it also could be said to be a ‘COVID linked’ tragedy...so it does have ‘something to do with...’...you know..?...obviously COVID having a link to other deaths as well but not the direct cause of as such...

sorry to say but some people have used Covid as a way of ducking their responsiblities and are still doing it
My aunt is waiting for an Occupational Health visit but they are still not visiting homes....??? surely there shouldn't be a blanket approach, she lives alone, she can social distance from whoever comes to inspect her bathroom ..
