Linus Tech Tips already did this on a 3090 - they cost a fortune though, not really for most people. The 3080 will be pretty much flawless 4k gaming @ high, 1440p @ ultra.
4080 will probably do 8k at 30fps (yuck)... might see viable 8k (60+ FPS) becoming a thing with the 5080.
(assuming they stick with the current naming convention)
So in short; yes, but another 2-3 years before it's an affordable prospect.
Its usual for PC gaming to jump past console around 2 years into the console's lifespan, so that's pretty standard stuff really. That said, this time round I'll be pretty surprised if the PS5/SeriesX aren't easily outperformed by an rtx 3080. A lot of it will come down to texture loading speeds, PC gamers will need to upgrade to m.2 NVME ssd's to keep up there, SATA isn't fast enough.
Luckily I got myself a 2tb m.2 about 6 months back :hee:.

Surely you'll be able to at least get a PS4 when the PS5 comes out Nicky :worry:.

the size of the graphics card [emoji23]All of the top end ones these days are big but yeah the 3090 is an absolute monster. I wouldn't be able to fit one in my PC without modding it to move the PSU. It's the cooling that adds all the bulk, massive heat sinks in that one.

Also for some more context here, Forza is a pretty easy game to run on ultra, it can hit 120fps on Ultra @ 1440p on a gtx1080. He's hitting 40 - 45fps at times here which is pretty clunky for a racing game and (in my opinion) unplayable for a first person shooter. A lot of 3rd person games play fine locked at 30 though so it would be fine for those.
I dunno why people insist on benchmarking using Control though. The optimisation is horrible even at mid-range settings. Even at 1080p :umm2:. It drops frames for no apparent reason.
