View Full Version : A question for the speccy foureyeses

My glasses are here and since I'm a nerd/OAP like you lot now, I have a question.
So.
Being able to see properly is amazing it turns out - apparently I didn't actually know what 4k looked like :umm2:... but yeah... anyway yes, clear vision is great BUT...
...The frames in my field of view annoy the **** out of me. I like the style of glasses and they suit me but I find it really distracting and irritating.
Wut do I duuh.
Will I just get used to it? Are bigger glasses with larger lenses better? Should I have a pair of ridiculous massive glasses for home use and just use the smaller more stylish ones for when people will actually be looking at me? Are frameless glasses better or is the edge still obvious in the periphery? :bawling: I don't mind the legs/frame at the side so much but I find the frame at the top and bottom really bothersome.

You'll get used to it TS. When I got frames with tgucker arms they used to drive me mad, particularly when I was driving, I thought there was always something in my blind spot. After a few days though I got used to it and now don't see them at all.
...are they quite a dark/wide frame, then...?...you will get used to wearing them and it’ll be less noticeable but it might always be noticeable to you because of the frame style.../...have you considered contacts as well as glasses..?...

it's a thin frame but they're not "massive" glasses. I was thinking that some sort of massive 3" diameter dinner plates might put the frame out of view :joker:.

I'm scared that contact lenses will dissapear into my skull.

...anything will seem huge to you in your view just because you’re a first time glasses wearer so your vision atm is too distracted by the frame...as Annie said, you’ll get used to them very quickly and your focus will shift to the lens, you’ll barely notice the frames anymore...mind you, I can’t wear glasses for driving, only wear them mostly in the evenings for watching TV etc...I prefer contacts for the most part because my vision through glasses is obviously more just straight ahead only, not taking in eye direction movement...
I'm scared that contact lenses will dissapear into my skull.
...I promise you they won’t, they’ll stay in your eyes at all time until you remove them...
...get used to spectacle wearing first and then maybe chat to your optician about contacts...

that reminds me of the first time I wore contacts, they were the old fashioned hard style and disappeared under my eyelid, I had to go to A and E, I didnt wear contacts for years afterwards, now I wear soft ones you can swoosh around your eyeball
You can get a test (2 weeks) of daily disposibles to see if you get on with them, otherwise get used to the frames

So my massive comedy glasses plan isn't going to work?

I was like that before I started wearing them. I only have the disposable wear once type that you throw away after wearing but they are dead easy to put in and take out. I have really bad astigmatism and have to have Toric lenses but they are still comfortable and I can barely feel them
So my massive comedy glasses plan isn't going to work?
...I don’t know, I think that your daughters’ will decide whether they’re cool or comical in terms of aesthetics...whatever they think/say is how it is...

You will soon get used to it ( very soon in fact ) that said I’m a great believer in rimless glasses or at least nothing in the bottom half

I might be old enough to need glasses but I'm sure as **** not so old that I'm still reading paper magazines! :umm2:
I also don't have any Lord of the Rings models.
... ... ... however I do have some Fallout bobbleheads so I'm not going to take the high ground there.

My eyes have started going too, I think. Always had near perfect vision, but I've started having to hold things a bit further away from my face to avoid blurry vision. :fist:

Mine was great until about 3 years ago and I've been ignoring it since then. I didn't realise how bad it was until I went and got them checked, it's only with a "comparison" that it's really obvious. I'm short-sighted though so I can actually see clearly up to about a foot from my face. I really notice it at long distances - like I'd forgotten you're supposed to be able to make out individual leaves at the top of trees, and it's not actually meant to be a fuzzy green blob. Grass looks weird too. And textured fabrics like carpets. All of these things have looked smooth for years :joker:.

I am next level up on this journey as my readers i use on the sofa are on a chain as i have to switch up from TV glasses to readers like when adverts come on and i grab my phone. so i have one pair on my head and one on and a chain hanging down like a granny .
On the odd occassion i have fallen asleep and both pairs fall on top of each other it really is quite the look

You will need perscription sun glasses now TS unless you get contacts for the two days of Scottish sunshine
You get used to the frames as others have said. I recently progressed on to varifocals which is a new level of hell until you get used to them. You have that to look forward to :hee:

You will need perscription sun glasses now TS unless you get contacts for the two days of Scottish sunshineI was thinking that last week 'cause there was a very bright orange sunset and I was squinting a bit in the car. I don't even have regular sunglasses at the moment though, bloody dog ate them.
AND actually there was a lot of sun here this year - it was glorious pretty much all the way through lockdown 1.0 :joker:. The rain came along as soon as it ended.
I'm a country bumpkin though so we had loads of nice sneaky sunny Covid walks up in the hills :hee:.

I decided I'm much happier when I can't see properly, the world's a nicer place when it's unclear.
I prefer the world through my rose tinted glasses aha

You'll probably get used to seeing the frames in your field of view because having clear vision is better than blurry vision.
You will get used to it in a few days or so
