View Full Version : President Elect Joe Biden
Apparently Trump is being advised to hold a series of rally's around the country telling his supporters that he has been cheated. This is not going to be over any time soon

The silence from the hierarchy of the Republican party is both worrying and really bad as to upholding democracy.
The sooner January comes and this power crazed Trump is out the better.
There’s no way he can possibly come on top of this. Biden has won too many states. He can’t recount them all and expect any sort of turn over. What he’s doing now is just money grabbing to make up for the costs of his presidential campaign.
the dems and lincoln project supporters have been trolling their fraud hotline so they changed the number ... and guess what all the pranksters are now trolling the new number ... it's all really funny when its happening over there

This is precisely why Boris was waiting to see what happened in the US before proceeding with Brexit stuff. The outcome informs what he does next.
...because the President Elect of the USA sees the importance of us having that deal more than our own leader does...
The difference between Biden and someone like Trump, is that Biden was an active politician throughout much of the Troubles, and when the GFA was conceived and signed in the first place. He will have been following it at the time and thus is far more aware of its importance.

...Trump and Johnson are so similar as well in character...in terms of ‘self protection’ above all else and not really paying any mind to legal or illegal...they both know their goals, and that’s their only focus...to achieve those, whatever the cost to others...?...they’re fundamentally, not politicians because of their self serving natures...

I think that's potentially one of the benefits of having an older president like Biden. This is very much his political swan song, he'll be in his 80's when his term ends, so he's much less likely to have any interest in being self-serving (either politically or financially) in terms of thinking forward to after his term ends. This is his final chapter.
I mean Trump is old too but you have to assume, based on his personality, that Trump probably firmly believes that he will live forever.
The republicans will want to take back the presidency in 4 years, and if they maintain control over the senate they will simply stop Biden doing anything unless he uses an executive order. Things are not suddenly going to change because Biden got elected. For 2 years, Trump had control of congress so he was able to pass many things through. That may well not be possible for Biden

Well the only confirmed bit of potential fraud so far was a trump voter who voted early, then tried to vote again in person on election day. Then claimed she wasn't being allowed to vote. Although she was an old Doris, so she may have just been mixed up.

Yeah, all instances I've heard of have been instances to benefit Trump. The postman that dumped all the mail votes in a democrat area, Trump supporters intimidating people at voting centres and then trying to interfere with the vote, the glitch in Georgia that resulted in votes for Biden not being counted etc.
It's just the usual projection from Trump, accusing others of what he and his side are guilty of.
Biden has also built up significant leads now in those marginal states, PA is now 50k lead. None of them are going to flip on a recount

If the Republican party permit a number of legal challenges, after all Georgia will be doing a recount so seek that if it's close enough.
Legal challenges without a recount seems a destructive way to go.
I can't see any way, where any possible voter fraud or even a full recount, will result in a change of the results in each State.
Florida in 2000 was a different issue.
Barely hundreds of votes were the gap there.
Not multiple thousands.
I'm really surprised the Republican party, (while I'd never be a supporter of admittedly), is allowing this suspicion, dangerous tensions and clearly unsubstantiated with evidence, claims of widespread fraud in the American democratic electoral process.
Never mind all else, as this mess is allowed to continue, if it does, then as tine passes, this could look really bad for the Republican Party.
If they will not accept the results of an election held under all their own conditions and rulings.
They have a simply bad loser as their candidate for President.
A power mad individual.
Who needed removing from office, who has been democratically and the high level of the Republican party should make him toe the line on that.
Any recounts, any legal nonsense, legal being a joke description there.
Are NOT going to change this result.
The Republican Party need to wake up and defend the system, or this could backfire heavily on the whole Republican Party.
Not just on Trump.

Trump won a good few States on a tiny margin in 2016.
I don't recall threats of or legal challenges in those States.
Within days, Clinton had phoned Trump to congratulate him and concede defeat.
He himself announced that.
Even though then as now he trailed her in the popular vote by 3 million votes.
He won on the electoral college votes.
The difference between him and Biden now, is Biden has won the popular vote by more than Clinton did over Trump.
Also however Biden has won the electoral college votes too.
Something it seems Trump sympathisers seem to prefer to ignore.

To be fair they are WELL overdue for having a woman in the White House, even if it is as veep (for now? :umm2: ). Look at how many other 1st world nations have had a female leader at this point... the US really is lagging behind there. We had Thatcher way back in the 80's who - awful as she was - still represented major progress in terms of "who could be Prime Minister".
That said, they have had Obama while we're yet to have a non-white British PM.

It's hilariously ironic how republicans and trump fans are melting down and claiming it's a fix when, in 2016, they took such delight in telling people to accept the result despite actual evidence of Russian interference.
These people think it's fine that foreign interference is a thing as long as it benefits them but a fair vote that doesn't go their way is simply unacceptable.

We've not had a female Taoiseach yet (although we were very close this year with Mary Lou McDonald and I still hope she will get in next time :fc: ) We've had a couple of female Presidents though although that role in Ireland is not running the country, it's always been more of a ceremonial role but having said that our first female President Mary Robinson really pushed that role and actually did things with it, much more than any of her predecessors.
Leo Varadkar was the first non white (well mixed race) and openly gay Taoiseach

That's Jennifer Rubin, a lifelong republican.
She's not even talking about "doing away with the Republicans", she's talking about the Republicans themselves needing to root out Trumpism in the party and re-establish themselves as a respectable political entity. Though I do think she could have phrased it a little better.

It’s big talk from Nigel anyway who’s spent the last couple of years calling people traitors if they don’t agree with him and pledging to take up arms for a civil war if the result didn’t go his way, if you’re gonna be a grifter you need a better memory

There's a difference between being a practicing lawyer (i.e. still able to and registered to practice law) and being a full-time working lawyer actively taking on regular cases, though. She didn't give up her job but that's a different thing to being "still working".

i do think there is a great deal of hypocrisy in the way the 2 parties behave and its not like it's a battle of good vs evil they way it is has been portrayed, it's just not that black and white
That being said, Trump does need to put his big boy pants on and concede

Can Donald Trump pardon himself?
Despite Donald Trump's arguments otherwise, his time in the Oval Office is coming to a close.
Though his time in office has been anything but traditional, the president will almost certainly take advantage of one outgoing presidential tradition; issuing a slew of pardons.
Mr Trump has already put his presidential pardon powers to use; in 2017, Mr Trump pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was charged and found guilty of being in contempt of court after refusing to cooperate with federal authorities attempting to make the law enforcement entity less racist.
He also pardoned Scooter Libby - who was convicted of obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame incident of the early 2000s - and conservative campaign fraudster and content creator Dinesh D'Souza.
He's even issued some good pardons; in 2018, Mr Trump pardoned legendary black boxer Jack Johnson, who was found guilty of violating the hugely racist "White Slave Traffic Act" for crossing state lines with a white woman in 1912.
But could Mr Trump pardon himself?
The short, unsatisfying answer is "maybe."

The legal cases pending about how the UNDemocratic party are responsible for voter fraud on an industrial scale, which have plenty of merit, say otherwise. From what I hear Trump is set for his second term whilst Biden is set for jail.
