never watched any maasterchef because ive not had the time before but with the gyms shut id like to get into this.

these are more like sous chefs, or head chefs of smaller lesser known restaurants

so basically at first episodes the contestants already know some skills, so this is about who can become even better, to maybe even michelin star worthy material

overall first episode, very enjoyable to watch

also the new bits, where either Marcus/Monica go backstage and get a more close look at contestants in first challenge is kinda fun as well

also the 2 metre distancing of course, and each judge tasting separately and on their own plate

I thought Sammy had the best dish.
The girls dish was unique and interesting but it was like a tasting menu rather than a meal.

tonight's heat info

In tonight’s second heat, four more professional chefs arrive from across the nation to compete in the renowned MasterChef kitchen. Two chefs are challenged by Marcus Wareing to prepare sweetbreads with a rustic red wine sauce in just 20 minutes, while Monica Galetti asks the other two to create a glazed sabayon fruit dessert.

Then the four chefs get the chance to impress the judges with two stand-out signature dishes. Once their time is up, the judges will decide which two are to be sent home and which two make it through to this week’s quarter-final.

Kuljit kinda a flop :fan: being a head chef at a 4 star hotel

His food was definitely the worst out of the first two episodes.

I am surprised though that Victor went through the last episode when he had so many components missing from his Dessert.

Alex, Jono went through last nights episode of the first 4 of second batch of hopefuls

for tonights ep

In this week's first heat, two chefs face a skills test set by judge Monica Galetti. They must fillet a trout, smoke it and serve it with a celeriac remoulade. Will they get the balance of flavour and smoke just right or will it be a burn out? Meanwhile, Marcus Wareing challenges the other two chefs to prepare a classic crepe suzette. Precision is crucial to achieve a good texture in the crepe and deliver a punch of flavour in the accompanying orange sauce. Will the chefs hit the mark or flounder at the first hurdle?

Then the chefs prepare their two-course signature dishes. They have one hour and 25 minutes to cook up a main and a dessert that highlight their creativity and flair and give Monica, Marcus and Gregg a taste for their personal style. This is their chance to really cement their place in the competition and make it through to this week's quarter-final.

I wonder why we didn't get to see the fourth contestant last night?

I hope that nothing serious has happened.

idk, and maybe also said nothing for privacy reasons

find this weeks round also lesser contestants, than weeks before so whoever goes through here in tonight's quarter final, their competition truly begins against some fierce opponents

not bad dishes of last night though, lots of ambition (maybe too ambitious for some)

last nights was interesting, i was happy Paul got through, also kinda like what sort of chef he is, also fun he did arrange foods for garden party's for royal family

Jamaar got some potential

but tonights last quarter final, Bart/Carla are on paper the frontrunners, the better of the signature dishes comparing to Jamaar, Paul, but who knows maybe we'll get a surprise tonight

lovely round last night with memories dishes

and a lovely elimination challenge either, with the takeaways, i agreed with Gregg very fitting these times when we rely more than ever on takeaways since restaurants are closed

My favorites are Bart, Jono, and Philli.

But I like them all so good luck to them.

reasons why i like mine

Bart: his cooking skills are just phenomenal, and not being biased bc i'm dutch but his dishes just look fab so far

Santosh: he brings something new to the show, new flavours, dishes what the judges have never tasted before, and definitely knows his way around spices, very daring he did a DimSum dessert since not many chefs had success with that but he made it work

Jono: his first dish, with the ants i was like wow, something different, it almost felt like was i watching IAC or Survivor  and he has improved too a lot, still his own style but much neater plates of food

Missed this thread until now :skull: Avid watcher.

I'm just glad that

Jono has gone. Just didn't like his attitude. And from looking at Twitter - I'm not alone.

Santosh is my favourite, loved the look of his food from the start.

agree

Santosh i like as well, his take on the classics is very original, ok with the first dish presentation wasn't that high end cuisine but they couldn't fault him again on taste

second dish was flawless as well, and taking a simple classic as rice pudding to new modern inventive standards

Jono's sticky toffee pudding needed more sticky toffee sauce on top, what Monica said, that i think being a reason he got sent home, those tiny details can cost you your place

i liked Dave at first, but the nerves got the better of him i think, he was a lot calmer at his first dish (cook-off) though than last week

I love all of the final 3, and Philli. Don’t mind who wins honestly as they’re all so good but I’m rooting for my man Santosh - since his first showing his food just looks amazing and he’s one of the first ones I’ve really thought “I want to eat that food!”.

I liked Jono, he had that Chef's arrogance about him.

Tbh the top six were really strong this year imo, my favourite being Bart, but I honestly think all of the top six made a strong claim to win.
