View Full Version : Eamonn and Ruth AXED from This Morning

Smithy
14-11-2020, 05:59 PM
Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford are being dropped from their weekly slot on This Morning after 14 years, to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

The husband and wife duo, who have presented the Friday show together since 2006, are said to be “furious and upset” over the move.

But in a shake-up of presenters, the couple will instead be given the job of hosting the main programme for six weeks in the summer holidays, when main hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take a break.

Mum-of-one Hammond, 45, has been part of the This Morning “family” for years as a roving reporter and is a firm favourite with fans.

Queen Alison getting the role :clap1:

I like Alison but I feel her having a huge part will lower her popularity as she will be very PC in the debates and probably over opinionated in debates. Her role has always been fun and making people laugh, now it’s more serious I actually think it will harm her

Yeah I'm not a fan of Eamonn. He subtly puts Ruth down a lot. Like Richard Madeley with Judy. Argh. Odious man.

I don’t watch the show, but when I have seen them together they seem quite happy, why would you want to drive a wedge through someone’s marriage? that seems bizarre and unwarranted for a couple you just know through TV

Eamonn Holmes was accused of being opposed to LGBT parenting when he told two gay interviewees in a 2000 GMTV episode that "You are not meant to have children. You are going against nature!"

Whilst presenting This Morning in October 2011, Holmes described singer Jonathan Wilkes as "retarded" on air. He later apologised after complaints and calls for him to be sacked.

In October 2011, Holmes provoked criticism by suggesting that a rape victim should take taxis in future, leading to accusations of victim blaming.[39]

On 12 May 2016, Eamonn Holmes provoked criticism by comparing an attack by West Ham fans to the Hillsborough disaster.

There are an endless array of controversies surrounding him ..

Dermot O'Dreary, Allison Hammond and Rylan Clark are TV presenters from Hell. Never liked Hammond in Big Bother. Used to like Dermot but he's become very boring. Rylan and Allison, both talentless jumped up ex Big Brother contestants. They're just big mouth show offs. Nothing else.

So if somebody does something bad that’s nothing to do with their job, they shouldn’t be sacked?

Not being open about your sexuality Isn’t a sackable offence, if they sacked everyone who wasn’t 100% truthful to their partners at all times, there’d be nobody left on tv

People’s personal life are irrelevant to the work life, it’s not illegal so it doesn’t matter

...I can’t actually think of anyone more joyful/uplifting for daytime TV...when Alison laughs, the whole world laughs, she’s so contagiously bubbly ......a perfect personality, I would have said...and because it’s live, I’m imagining some hilarious ‘oooooops/errors’ from her as well.....I hope so, anyway...

I would agree if there were a vacancy, but to oust someone from the job they have done for years is very poor, and it seems they were the last to know

but then ITV have a track record of not caring about their staff, sacking Fern to install Holly because Pip felt he was being overshadowed

If you sacked someone for a personal issue that is not illegal and does not impact or impede their job you'd be up before an employment tribunal before you can say wrongful dismissal

Been a while since i watched, and when i did it wasn't much so i don't really care who presents it. Though i would have preferred Phil to get the sack, he's on telly enough, he's in every other ad nowadays it seems! I would literally go out of my way not to sell my car to webuyanycar.com after seeing so many of the dire ads he appears in!

Well people who work in the public domain whether its Television/sport/public figure DO get asked to resign if they do something in their private lives that does not represent the Brand they represent...

Of course Philip Schofield would never be sacked for what he did....but it certainly changed peoples opinion of him with regard to wife.

Sack someone for ruining a woman's life and basically committing fraud and likely putting her health at risk. Seems reasonable my love!

Putting her health at risk? Fraud?

That never happened. Fern quit. She has told the story several times.

and why did she quit? she resigned because she was being treated poorly and something happened on the day she quit, she did'nt plan to resign on that day

and why did she quit?

Because she hated the production of the show.

Leaving a job because you no longer like it how the company has changed is NOT the same as being "sacked".

She didn't plan to quit but she said it was the "final straw" so was a build up of things over time.

She wasn't sacked in any way, shape or form.

she resigned because she was being treated poorly and something happened on the day she quit, she didn't plan to resign on that day and she and Scholfield are not exactly friends even all these years later, treating someone poorly is a sure fire way to get rid of them without getting into legal territory

Someone being "treated poorly" is subjective. She has never shared what it is for anyone else to make the judgement. The only thing she said was that it wasn't paid as her salary was more than generous.

Quitting because you no longer enjoy the job, no longer like the company, feel undervalued is not being sacked.

Apparently there was heavy rumours that it was because Philip got paid more than Fern, but when it was mentioned her response was "it's because he's simple the best" .

But I'm guessing the pay difference played a part in it . Even though she tried to brush it off.

Marsh.

It's only a sign she no longer enjoyed the job.

Nobody can assess what it is as she's never opened up properly about the things she took issue with.

Ah yes, because they opened the show with ‘we decided not to invite Allison back today’. Her role hasn’t started yet. Give her a break.

If people are saying they don't watch the show much then why do they care who hosts it ?? :conf:.

I very occasionally watch bits of it ,but I don't tune it for it and haven't for a long time

If Alison becomes a regular I might actually watch it more often , because she's a bubbly laugh :) lol and you know there's never a dull moment when she's about.
