His argument crumbles very quickly for me in a debate about collective responsibility , for me it is the responsibility of those in power especially in rich western nations to ensure there is adequate educational and economic provision for all. There also needs to be copious emotional support at home. He presumes that all the tools are at our disposal that would enable us to make our own fortune and in turn change the fortunes of future generations. For many children growing up today in abject poverty having the opportunity that such privilege gives is a world away therefore any hope of fulfilling any dream is impossible.

For a psychologist to suggest it is simple and anyone can rise up and succeed is odd.
