None of those people really exist.

Designed to Deceive: Do These People Look Real to You? By Kashmir Hill and Jeremy White
Nov. 21, 2020

There are now businesses that sell fake people. On the website Generated.Photos, you can buy a “unique, worry-free” fake person for $2.99, or 1,000 people for $1,000. If you just need a couple of fake people — for characters in a video game, or to make your company website appear more diverse — you can get their photos for free on ThisPersonDoesNotExist.com. Adjust their likeness as needed; make them old or young or the ethnicity of your choosing. If you want your fake person animated, a company called Rosebud.AI can do that and can even make them talk.

These simulated people are starting to show up around the internet, used as masks by real people with nefarious intent: spies who don an attractive face in an effort to infiltrate the intelligence community; right-wing propagandists who hide behind fake profiles, photo and all; online harassers who troll their targets with a friendly visage.

We created our own A.I. system to understand how easy it is to generate different fake faces.
The A.I. system sees each face as a complex mathematical figure, a range of values that can be shifted. Choosing different values — like those that determine the size and shape of eyes — can alter the whole image.....

the technology in this area has been advancing very quickly and its now used in video manipulation too. You basically can't trust anything anymore

in like 20 years we will create a new species of human that has not been the result of natural selection and 4 billion years of evolution, its mental to think but its out there

Games will be photorealistic within a couple of decades, so you will have AI generated people who do not exist, never have existed, yet look like actual video footage of a real person walking around, talking and communicating with you.

Sometimes I do wonder if it would be harder to shoot a character in a game who looks and sounds like a real human being. The ethical implications ARE sort of interesting once you actually venture all the way across the uncanny valley.

If I bought a ps5, would I be able to walk about in a game like fable or res evil with my face on a body unlike mine?

Not yet Parmy. I'd say by maybe PS7 or PS8 though - so sometime in the 2030's would be my bet.

Normally with CGI faces I think "yeah they look quite real, but something's not quite right?" but with those, they just look like photos as far as I'm concerned... and that makes it creepier, somehow

It's easier because they're still images, usually when things start moving is when you get that "off" feeling that something isn't quite right.

Just wait until the catfishes get their hands on this tech though :worry:.

"They're using someone else's pictures, let's find out who the real person in the photographs is..."

"NOPE they don't exist lol!"

The funny thing is catfish fool people with obvious stolen photos of real people, they don't need to use these CGI photos.

The amount of things I've seen where it's clearly a model or celeb image ,yet people are gullible enough to believe it   .

I did that to catch the TL. I used one of Danny Dyer. The downside is i have been having to speak all cockney like for the past 3 years.

In the end it did not work as the TL and I are sadly no more

I'll come round for Christmas LT, will bring the kids, you can sort all of the dinner etc. and we'll bring like a box of Quality Street or something. One of the big £5 ones but you can get it for £3.50 with ClubCard so we might even bring two?

The TL bought all of us presents and they are all wrapped and she made a Christmas messenger group for us all (me and kids and her one). I dont know if she will give me the presents when i leave at the weekend, its all very awkward.

Ammi
23-11-2020, 10:43 AM
...it’s all steps, isn’t it...she may give them to you but she may not think to at the time, I would think that neither of you have fully absorbed it...it’s just motions atm, fully sinking in is going to be an ongoing process...

do you think you both need to step back a bit and maybe just have a few days away from each other to clear the air and then reassess, lockdown has been tough on everyone, don't be hasty...

I normally would say if it's got to the point of moving out then things are quite clear BUT I actually do agree that lockdown/pandemic stuff is absolutely ****ing mad, so it might be worth considering if it really is a total bust or if those elements are playing a big part in why it isn't working... because things are really not "normal circumstances" for anyone at the moment and as a rule of thumb, you don't really know if a relationship is working or not, if it's only "not working" under extreme circumstances.

Obviously no one here knows the ins and outs of casa LT though so I'd just say, I suppose, try to imagine the exact same situation and reasons for separating "in a non-Covid world" and would it be the same regardless? If it wouldn't make a difference then it is what it is. If it would, then might be something worth thinking about.

Yeah, it's not easy all being on top of each other constantly for months on end especially when you have teenagers/young adults in the mix as well

I would echo the extreme circumstances environment we all find ourselves in, even if you don't think you have been personally affected, its a gradual degradation that has happened over months and people are showing the strain.

I did say to her its not easy waking up every Monday not knowing if you are about to be made redundant (ie lockdown) for months and months on end

In all seriousness, if I was still at the bookies (where they were furloughed for months and even before Covid things were not secure at all with all the regulatory changes) during all of this, I think my relationship probably would be in a terrible state as I'm a self-confessed nightmare when finances aren't secure. Like a proper wreck. I'd probably have been stabbed in my sleep, never mind kicked out.

Ammi
23-11-2020, 11:15 AM
...maybe the time apart with you moving out will give you both that breathing time that you both need and it may be that this isn’t a permanent thing....you’ve gone through all of those changes now with the house, they don’t have to be relived...that ‘overwhelming’ will fade...and 2020 restrictions and isolations are coming to see the end as well with a vaccine....so with space, things might look entirely different for both of you...

Cherie
23-11-2020, 11:31 AM
Living in a house while it it being done up is a huge stress, add on work worries, its hard to see the wood from the trees, keep talking and leave the door open when you do leave, keep communicating
