Press Release: Sunday 24 June, 2007
TASK ANNOUNCEMENT

IF YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE… HOUSEMATES MUST STAY AWAKE TO WIN SHOPPING TASK
(starts E4/Interactive streaming Sunday 24 June)

Housemates will tonight begin the ultimate endurance test - by collectively sleeping for a mere four hours over a 60-hour time-frame in order to win a luxury shopping budget. And with nominations due to take place at 2am tomorrow (Monday) morning, what affect will sleep-deprivation have on the housemates' decisions?

The task will start this evening when housemates will be treated to cheese and wine, while the Big Brother house is transformed into a sleep haven, filled with cushions and bean bags, white bedding and "sleep" signs in order to make the house as comfortable and sleep-inducing as possible.

At 9pm the task will be revealed by Big Brother to the housemates. By that stage they will have been awake for 11 hours. They will be told that until 10pm on Tuesday they will COLLECTIVELY have only FOUR hours in which to sleep. In the living area will be the "Sleep Clock" which will start ticking down as soon as one or more housemates have had their eyes shut for one minute.

During the task:
* there will be no alarms to wake housemates - it will be entirely the housemates' own responsibility to stay awake.
* Big Brother will offer housemates opportunities to earn more sleeping hours to add to their Sleep Clock.
* for the duration of the task, housemates must wear the white pyjamas provided. They will also be given white dressing gowns, slippers and teddy bears.
* Big Brother will offer housemates a chance to add an extra hour on to their Sleep Clock by "counting sheep" where they must become sheep and jump over fences in the garden.
* The twins, Sam and Amanda, will be offered the chance to win a special birthday treat on Tuesday when they turn 19.
* plus more sleep-inducing temptations to be revealed…

At 10pm on Tuesday Big Brother will gather housemates in the living area to announce the result of the shopping task, and to inform them if they have won a luxury shopping budget, or if they are on basic rations for the week.

Wow, this is a harsher variation of BBAU's task set a few weeks ago. These housemates can't even sleep!

Reminds me of the show Dermot hosted called Shattered.. anyone remember that one on channel 4. Have been wondering when Bb would do something similar!

Wow, what a task! It's going to be extremely difficult... people need their sleep! Some will find it easier than others, but they're really going to have to try and keep themselves entertained to stay awake...

Sounds quite a good task, going to take quite a bit of will power, can see people getting snappy through a lack of sleep and the pressure to stay awake.

Nominations at 2am will be something different lol.

The alarm keeps going off and BB won't let them get any sleep, even before the task starts! Evil.

Sounds good but they'll probably sack it in after about 5 hours.

Sounds like a great task. I don't get if that's 4 hours sleep each or between them. If it's the total time for all of them I would have thought it's impossible. Imagine trying to wake up Charley after her 15 minutes sleep during 60 hours. lol.

It has gone 9.00pm and nothing has happened yet? They must be running behind. How long is the time delay on the live feed?

This could be a brilliant task. The possibilities are endless. What's good too is that BB have the say in the number of sleep hours so they can drag it out to the bitter end, and it could get bitter.lol Can't wait to see what they all talk about when it gets tough.

This looks about the hardest task I can remember, and I love the way they are all so excited about it, They are in for a shock, sleep deprivation is, as we all know, hell.

Amy
24-06-2007, 09:13 PM
I'm well into this task and it is still to really start.. bring on the costumes and the lack of coffee!

I think it's hillarious! Charley will no doubt lose the plot even more without sleep! Nicky too - I see rows bigtime when sleep depravation kicks in! Liam n Ziggy "Sleep Police" :thumbs2: Who wakes Charley? Jesus - the screams will keep the rest awake! I see a fail - I can't see it! 60 hours with only 3 collectively? No chance......

It's clever how all the words like HOT, EAT and WET etc have been replaced with sleep...

This is going to be fun to watch can't wait to see it unfold...

24-06-2007, 10:46 PM
Looking at them now, they all looked whacked already lmao. I must say there is much relief watching this in the knowledge that it's ok for me to feel tired. :thumbs2:

yeah it reminds me of that tv programme that dermott presented called shattered where they ahd to stay awake for ages

Legend
25-06-2007, 09:17 AM
I couldn't do that. I love my sleep, i've only had 7 hours sleep last night and i'm still knackered now, i really couldn't do it.

This is a lot harder than BB Aus as they did get more sleeping time.

If i was in the house then i'd have to rely on the twins to play games with me for 24 hours to keep me awake.

Brians losing his rag with billi cos Billi wants "a minutes sleep" hehe.

J.C.
25-06-2007, 01:34 PM
It appears that Laura has had a secret mission all along to wreck the task by sleeping 3 hours or something and something about her having to stay in bed. However I think she has just told the group that she has failed her task , and now the group are completely confused and wanting BB to clarify whats going on. I think it could be over.:puzzled:

Edit;
Brian has been told to read out the rules again and ask laura about her secret mission.:puzzled::puzzled:

It sounds like Laura hasn't understood it herself may be.

I know they've more or less failed.. they don't though.. so it'll be funnier if they stick at it then fail .. may sound cruel but it is the hell week!
